How do you add an effect to just one part of a recording or midi? Such as a delay or echo one just one note or at the end of the song with applying the effect to the entire line? Or increase the volume, ping pong left and right. Doing this was a easy with Acid Pro, but doesn't seem as much so in Sonar (Platinum).
 
I hope I'm explaining that right.

I would create a bus and insert whatever effect your after, put a send on the channel(s) that has the audio your after, Change the edit filter to automation and choose that send, lower the envelope all the way down, add 2 nodes on each side of the phrase or word that you want to delay, raise the envelope in that section, adjust to taste.

You can add effects to a clip rather than an entire track. You could split a single note in your track into a single clip and then add the effect to the 'clip effects bin' which is found by right clicking the top right hand corner of the clip itself.
Or you can automate the effect so that it only occurs during the part of the track that you want it to effect.

Region FX is one way. A better way (IMO) is to copy the portion of the clip you want to effect to another track and put the effect 100% wet on that track and blend to taste. A third way is to use a send and automate the send gain so only the note(s) you want effected are sent to the bus. The effect goes on the bus itself.

That would be the way to do it.

Just think, in the analog world you had to wait until that part came along and turn the effect send for the track/ channel on the mixer up then down at the right spot. Now you can automate that action. And in possible a dozen ways too. 
With midi you even have a few more tricks using multiple notes and CC7 for pan. 

If you split the phrase u want. Select that clip after splitting then right click and select "bounce to clip(s)" this will essentially cut out all the audio data not shown on the clip so u can extend that clip out into silence to be lengthy enough for any echo or stutter or effect u want.I've ran into the situation u mentioned multiple times and found this is easiest way to do it.
As u probably know, simply adding an echo to that clip or whatever will end when the clip ends, by doing the bounce to clip trick it no longer contains the rest of the data beyond the clip extension. (So only part u want is there). This will allow u to extend out long enough for the effect u want.

In short... Split phrase or word you want/select that split clip/right click, select "bounce to clip(s)"/add effect and extend out as long as u like to accomadate.

This will also allow to keep everything on the same track.

This is probably the most visual and straightforward method - the length of the clip is the length of the effect (assuming it doesn't stop before that point).

Last night I was playing around with Platinum trying to get familiar with it and was away from real instruments so I did the midi thing. One part in the middle would have sounded cool with an effect.  Just didn't know how to go about adding to that one small part without killing the entire track.

Nice to see multiple ways to achieve this though. Never thought of the automation method surprisingly Lol. I learned something.
