  • Confused about Cakewalk Command Center vs. manual installations

Hi!

Sorry for the confusion but here is what I'm used to doing when distributing updates from Native Instruments ... just tried the same with CCC but that doesn't seem to work ...
  1. I usually download using offline methods (to be able to disbribute one download to main DAW and 2 backup systems instead of downloading 3 times) ...
  2. Install manually ...
  3. Every few weeks I use the NI service center on 1 machine to check for available updates ... and if found, start at #1 with manual download
This also insures having everything I paid for and all updates locally on a backup harddrive in case I need quick access for repair ...

So, now with the new CCC I tried that procedure, but after installing manually (most Sonar Platinum components) it only listed Sonar Platinum as installed, but listing availablility of an update (yellow dot). On top of that, it does not recognize any of the other installed Sonar components although listed in the Windows Programs and Features section ...

When allowing Sonar to update, it downloads another 300+MB only to install the same (!!!) version I installed myself a few minutes earlier - just to turn the light from yellow to green ...

Am I misunderstanding something about the entire CCC story, or is this not fully baked yet???

WOW - interesting ...

If I copy my manually downloaded files into the directory that CCC uses for its downloads, I can run the installation from CCC without having to download again ... I wish that would have been written somewhere in the offline DAW activation docs ... would have saved me a ton of clicks ...

and now CCC seems to register that it is installed ... so half baked I reckon because CCC writes some secrets into the registry that manual installation does not do ... why not read it directly out of windows ... ???

... and since CCC seems to verify something online I now doubt this will help when going to the offline system ... feature request that is then???

CCC as batch installer for offline DAWs ... can't be a biggie ... would be worth half of my upgrade fee as that saves tremendous time bringing offline DAWs to latest Sonar standard ...
