  • [Solved] An older version of the QuadCurve EQ was detected - now EQ doesn't work correctly

This message greets me with every new start of X3:

"An older version of the QuadCurve EQ was detected. This may result in missing functionality and/or unpredictable behavior. It is recommended you reinstall SONAR."

I upgraded from X2, which was an upgrade from X1. Nowhere can I find a reference to QuadCurve as a VST, or even anything similar. What can I do to make this error go away, and make the flyout work (EQ still works, but the flyout seems disabled)?

Reinstalling the upgrade has not changed anything, btw. I have also asked this question directly to tech support, but after two weeks without a reply, I give up.

Did you run the X3 install as administrator? If not, try a clean re-install. Here are the directions http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2914367

Dude Ivey
I've never run an installer as an administrator and my Flyout EQ works fine.
I didn't know to run an installer as an administrator.  I.ve been reading more and more about that on this forum but the X series has always been really solid for me so ive always just installed normal. Not arguing, just lack knowledge of installing that way. What's the difference?

It sounds like your install got corrupted. X3 is discovering parts from X2 that shouldn't be there. Probably just a fluke. You should reinstall X3 and you should be fine. X3 still discovers the sonitus eq from 8.5, and then tells you how to switch to the new version. The only problem is that when you change to the Quad Curve it doesn't retain the eq settings that were there. It resets everything flat.

At what point do you lose your original eq settings?  If you open a project created in X2, does X3 have all the eq's set as they were?

Hi Steve,
Sorry you're having trouble with the EQ. As ampfixer suggested, it seems likely that an older version of the EQ got left on your PC somehow.
I've done some work in that area, so feel free to PM me your email address and I'll see if I can help.
Thanks,
Ben

Did you reinstall X2 *after* X3 was installed? I'm not sure but its possible X2 put the old dll there.
Please check the the date and version number of the EQ dll. It will be in the Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal folder. If its old you can delete the old EQ dll and reinstall X3 to get the new version back.
Another thing to check is that you do not have two dll's one old and one new in your scan path somehow. (This can happen if you accidentally copied the dll to another location and have that included in the scan path)

Thank you all for the advice. I searched the old shared utility directory, and there was the Gloss EQ from 2011. I deleted it, reinstalled X3 once more, and now everything is fine. I figured it would be something like that, but Sonar was calling it QuadCurve, which is a name you can't find by searching your PC. :)

All is well now. Thanks again!

Hi Noel,  I have the same problem, I've sent you guys about 5 emails with no reply other than to refer me to tech support, where I cannot find the answer unless I ring for a £1 a minute! (from UK) - I love the product but the reason I paid the upgrade was to get the spectrum analyser in QuadCurve.  When I chanced accross your reply here I got excited but I'm still having some probs with the solution posted here - I'm not sure which .dll to remove to try your suggestion, could i have full name here are some pictures that clarify my difficulty (i'm also confused between Internal and Internal Trial folders, hopefully the name of the .dll will help) here are contents of the aforementioned folders - I am desperate tom get my upgrade working without displaying a message telling me it is unstable and malfunctioning as it is) - sorry had trouble posting pics here so I shared  privately with you on Google+ - Please help as I said I love the product but have been really frustrated with my upgrade!

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\Internal\PCS-GlossEQM.dll
