  • Why Should I Upgrade to the New Sonar?

I have X3e Producer with the following add ons, as listed on my profile page:

PC Concrete Limiter
PC PC4K S-Type Channel Compressor
PC PC2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier
PC CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier

So what do I get for the risk, as my system is running great (thanks Jim, StudioCat).

Are the new upgrades in Sonar worth it?

I am really confused.

If the existing version does all you need, no need to upgrade, just carry on making music. New features are great but I stuck at X2 for this very reason.

Upgrading is really a personal choice. You got to decide if you need any of the new features. I have been looking at the new version and I see some things that I want. it is funny how my wants become needs.

The things that stick out to me the most are the REmatrix Solo, the new control bar, Mix Recall, The new PRV features, MIDI time-stretching, velocity layering, The Pattern Tool, and last but not least Addictive Drums 2

These are my main reasons for upgrading. Everyone will have a different set of reasons. I think it is well worth the 149.00 price and I plan on upgrading soon.

I love the new Reverb.

You may need to jump on it. The$149.00, I  believe,  is  only good till the end of the month.

Control bar is a great upgrade, much more fluid and customizable. Mix Recall is a great addition and seems pretty solid, if a little slow. ReMatrix Solo is a sweet sounding, very low-latency (they say zero, which is kind of counter-intuitive), low-overhead default convo verb, great to have on board. Expandable sends and FX are a nice refinement. The other stuff I haven't dug into much yet - VocalSync looks very cool and useful, AudioSnap seems much improved, and so on. I suspect MIDI paint and stretch will be super useful. Some of the FX chains could be useful for a quick drop in and/or creativity-enhancement (hey cool, I never thought of routing it that way!) and people are saying nice things about Craig's amp sims. There are other tweaks and minor additions (DSD, etc). And if you need excellent, next-gen drums, the Addictive 2 stuff is a bonus that is theoretically worth more than the upgrade anyway. The whole package including the new installer seems pretty solid and stable. I'm not sure what's not to like, unless you're absolutely sure you don't need or want any of that stuff and won't need or want any of the planned new features over the course of the year. Of course you could wait and jump in later, but you'll be paying more (the intro discount will go away soon) and you won't have it to work/play with now...

I was unaware of that. Thanks for the heads up. I thought the upgrade price from X3 Professional to Platinum was always going to be $149 throughout the year. It will be tough but I will try and get this done before the end of the month.

AFAIK, it will be increasing to $199 at osme point.

Have you considered paying in monthly instalments?

While all the bells and whistles are fine, my main reason for upgrading is for better CPU handling and any refinement of the workflow. Platinum SEEMS to be slightly peppier than past versions for lack of a better word.
