  • Why Should I Upgrade to the New Sonar? (p.2)

Enhancements to the core audio engine can only be incremental, and I'm pretty sure we have seen this happening through each new release of Sonar.

You may need to jump on it. The$149.00, I  believe,  is  only good till the end of the month.

I was unaware of that. Thanks for the heads up. I thought the upgrade price from X3 Professional to Platinum was always going to be $149 throughout the year. It will be tough but I will try and get this done before the end of the month.

AFAIK, it will be increasing to $199 at osme point.

Have you considered paying in monthly instalments?

Cakewalk provide a payment plan for us cash strapped musicians.

I like to pay upfront. If I don't have the money then I won't make payments. I will wait until I get the money. That being said money is not the issue. Time is the issue. I don't like upgrading in the middle of major projects. I usually re-image my hard drive before I upgrade. I reinstall the operating system and everything else.

I do this for several reasons. I usually don't have any upgrade problems or issues. I think this practice replaces an over bloated registry and the computer seems to run better. I guess I am superstitious.

Anyway I would like to continue this practice before I upgrade and that means finishing this project and reinstalling windows.

Maybe I will just pay for it now and download it later.

Because you will get left behind. This upgrade may not be a lot different but one day you'll look up and see that there have been a lot of changes and it will be harder to adapt t them all at once. Everything changes and if you don't change with them one day you wake up and realize you have 80s hair.
I would check with Jim, I got Platinum but am going to install it alongside X3e on my Studiocat and if there are any problems I don't think they will be with the computer, if there are any Jim will know what to do.

Best version of Sonar that Cakewalk has ever done. That's why.

It's a no-brainer really, IMO. Snappier, more responsive, more stable, more reliable; all new additions are off-the-charts humongous... more refined and slicker user-interface, better midi input method, superb REmatrix Solo, excellent Addictive drummer 2, Craig Anderton Amp sims... all these are off the charts good, and all for $149. Arte you daft? Just kidden, but seriously, unless you're strapped for cash, can't really go wrong man.

it depends what you want to do - tools for jobs. if the new sonar makes those tools better for you, there you go, upgrade... the other reason would be to have new stuff

A bit OT:I have Vista on my laptop comp so I am not sure if it is a good idea to get the new Sonar. I have x1 so it would be a big upgrade.

I believe Vista is no longer supported since X3. IIRC people have been able to get X3 to run on Vista but the installation routines are looking for other things that are no longer compatible. YMMV.

Because if you don't upgrade the feelings of inadequacy will overtake again. And we don't want that now do we.  :-)
