Everybody has some kind of mindset. Some have a judgemental mindset. Some have an entitlement mindset.

You got what you were promised. Quit crying. It is really none of your business what the new owners of Cakewalk's intellectual property do with it or who they decide to give it to.

You remind me of the kind of person who would rather sit around complaining about how unfair it is that rich people are so rich than work hard, save your money and make smart decisions so you can get there yourself.

Yep. And some people just can't be happy unless they have something to be unhappy about.

While I could say how far back I used Sonar, I won't, but lets just say Fred Flintstone was my neighbor.

The only thing I will always dislike is the promised activation we were promised.

lease, I get it, that was only if this or because if that star lined up with this kosmos, etc, etc.

Bottom line is I will miss that. And that's my 2 cents. I do not care about free nowor later. I am in this to use Sonar...............period! Aren't you guys?

So you are opting for a judgmental mindset then?

I think it could be a genius move to restore Cakewalk back to the top three DAWs. I'm guessing that add-ons will be at cost, and if they have a huge user base, they can make it affordable and profitable.

Paying for add-ons should mean that they are never half baked, and if they are, they get popped bake in the hot oven PDQ, smethhing I feel has been an issue.

What in the hell is going on so I have spent money from as far back as cakewalk, to 8.5 all the way up to a lifetime member and Bandlab just gives it away for free????? I was told the free version is the latest version of Splat minus 3rd party plugins WTF again I say! That has to the ultimate middle finger to loyal members of this DAW!

I've used Sonar for far longer than you have, and have a different perspective.

Now my friends and students can collaborate with me (and each other) without a financial decision or discussion.  This is amazing news for those of us that are actually loyal, and not a fair weather fan that only liked it when you had to pay for it.

The only problems I see are things like lack of off-line authorization and why are people seeing "demo" mode for free software.  Hopefully a few things that will get worked out in the future.  I'd also like to see some information regarding the data transmitted and how the software updates and any "auto" communication back to the mothership.  As someone that needs to use a DAW in a legitimate business environment, software that does such things is a big security problem.

Crying not so much, entitled maybe but judgemental that is all you my friend. The crystal ball you are using to make assumptions is way off. Me wanting the product I have invested to mean something and not appear to be given away for free is my right. Never assume you know a person by what they post in a forum how do you know I am not rich and this is what I do for fun? Rich people are rich because they make WISE decisions with there money and even given money away or doing things for free is a calculated risk. Just food for thought :)

This is another example of the "How come they?" mentality many Americans suffer from. The original poster probably would not have had a problem receiving the product for free as a loyal paying costumer....but as far as everyone else?..."How come they get it for free too?" is what's really being asked here.

I am American and proud of it, if that means I want my hard earned dollars to count for something then I am guilty as charged. I have paid for every version since cakewalk, which paid the developers that created the latest version of Splat. So yes I fee others should not get for free what my invested dollars have paid for, give them a baseline version but not the latest and greatest

Listen I have been on this side of having to pay when others don't soooo many times in my life and I use to react like you did here, but just be thankful you could do it.   You got to use the technology way, way before others and technology becomes cheaper and cheaper over time.  That is what you gained here.

How do you think I felt when I had to pay for my children's college because I worked hard, prepared and saved my money...and so many others get a free ride only because they did not do what I did.  I never take vacations and many years worked the equivalent of 3 jobs.  And trust me my children's grades and ability put them at the very top...both are World class musicians you see and hear every day.

Be thankful there will be more musicians to share Cakewalk with and that will make Cakewalk better. And as a side note what will make you better is if you help those just coming into the fold along. Be thankful you have been able to pay your own way.  The other side of that sucks way worse.
