Thanks Keni and I'm gad to see you got 2015!! I took a look at Command Center and the settings. If I understand right, Platinum will install on C. My VSTs will install in the 64 or 32 bit folders on C. Then when I extract I can put the programs on C with Sonar and have their content, packs, MIDI, or whatever install on D. Then keep projects and associated audio and MIDI with the project on E... roight? It looks pretty simple to me. I think before I was just not paying any attention. Does what I said above sound right? CCC looks pretty straight forward as far as using settings to point it where I want it to go, at least with VSTs. I think CW assumed that everyone would install Sonar itself on their C drive.

Hi Juluen...

Yes... That sounds good... Personally, I don't like to have anything on my audio drive other than the audio, but it should work fine. If I felt keeping all that other media away from the c drive, I would add a 3rd drive for it, but I find my system works very well with all but the audio on my c drive...

Thanks about getting Platinum.... Another kind friend offered to pay the first month... Do I counted my change and bought it with the monthly plan while awaiting the cash so that I don't miss out on the special price... And I managed to get my DAW enough connectivity two nights ago to download the sonar portion of the package. I have not been able to get the other elements yet...

Hoping all is well for you... How was your Thursday excursion?

Could you summarize your procedure so that I can correctly duplicate what you did?
thanks

Sure Keith.

1) Download and install CCC
2) Click on the cog to go to settings menu
3) Designate where to put the VST2 and VST3 Plugins
4) Designate where CCC will download all the programs to your computer (Note this location for later)
5) Download and install Sonar Platinum. (This will take a while)
6) Once finished, right click on Sonar Platinum and choose "Uninstall". CCC uninstalls the program from your C Drive.
7) Navigate to the folders where the downloads were directed. All required programs will be found there separately,
8) Double click on each program desired to manually launch the individual installer. This will look very familiar to you and will allow you to choose both 32 and 64 bit installations AND designate installation drives and folders. This is the old way of installing.
9) Once done, reopen CCC. If the button is glowing yellow on Platinum, it means an update was found. Highlight the program, and an "Update" button will appear to the right. Click on that to automatically update Sonar. It will occur in the folder you designated to put the program.

Note: C drive does not escape being written on, as Sonar must communicate with the OS. Accordingly, there will be some installation files put on C regardless. Also, this will happen with the other programs that load the assorted plugins that come with the purchase bundle. Yet, since you designated in Settings where the plugins themselves are to be put, they will be installed in those folders set.

I've not yet installed Rapture or Dimension Pro ... as my X3 versions of them are the same as the versions included in Platinum ... BUT BUT ... I AM going to eventually install them BECAUSE of the "Auto Update" feature in CCC, and the old versions will NOT be recognized by CCC. Therefore it is wise to get the newer version of the same programs put onto one's rig.

Weird, when I upgraded the Cakewalk content went straight to a folder under my D drive where it belongs.
The cog icon allowed me the specify the VST file path settings before upgrading.

Maybe I have a later version of CCC?

I did my install without CCC and content for everything went to my preferred content location also.  Which is cool ... unless I wanted to specifiy a different place.

But then Sound Center dumped all its content on the system drive, again without asking.
