  • Should I or shouldn't I update X3?!

Hi,

I upgraded from Sonar 6PE on XP to X3P on Win 7 earler in the year.

So far I've stuck with the initial X3a installation without updating (although it hasn't seen heavy use as I'm still working on projects that are quite happy sitting in Sonar 6 for now).

When I follow the 'check for updates' link in the help menu it directs me to the download page for X3b - I'm aware that the available updates go up to X3e so was wondering if I should go straight to that or if I need to install b, c, d and e each in turn (I wouldn't expect to) or if others have found there were any update versions that were particularly beneficial or problematic..?

Or should I even bother (I haven't hit any problems with X3a yet)?

Regards,
Alex

You only need to download the X3E patch and install.
After that perform a full VST reset:

Do bother it is a great update. Don't bother installing the other updates.

Cheers...

Hi, these are the infos you need,
a cumulative update means X3 and then the E update- fixed.

a quote from the downloadpage:
A new update is available for SONAR X3, SONAR X3 Studio, and SONAR X3 Producer that addresses user reported issues. In order to install this update you must have SONAR X3 already installed. Note that this is a cumulative update. You can install SONAR X3e directly over the any of the following versions of SONAR X3:
  •  SONAR X3 release version (available on discs),
  •  SONAR X3a ESD version (available as a digital download)
  •  SONAR X3b
  •  SONAR X3c
  •  SONAR X3d

Thanks for confirming that the updates are cumulative Pragi and Alex.

Any other recommendations for X3e?

Yes, what some of the experienced gents here recommend,
always having a smile on the face during updating.....
evering is running smoother!

Always back up to an external hard drive beforehand :)
I recommend Acronis for the job but there are other solutions.
Having said that I've only ever had to roll back Sonar once since X1.
Oh and keep running windows update, check the optional updates, and make sure your interface drivers are on the latest including firmware.

Cheers...

Yes do it, X3 e is the most stable version since 8.5.
It's pretty simple, just make sure you have a good internet connection. You can download the update to a different computer too. I do that and then I save the files to my external drive so I'll have them for later.

Any other recommendations for X3e?

A little bit OT
Like you I went from 6 PE on XP to X 3 e (W 8 ) & stayed w 6 for a while before I tackled the X way of doing things .
Take your time and learn your way around X3e . X3e is a lot more feature rich and much more powerful compared to SONAR 6 .

good luck , I hope you enjoy X 3e . I do and I haven't touched 6 in number of months.
