Hi Gang...

I've got a bit to go before I diwnload and install AD2 and I'm wondering. Will they both (1&2) be available after installing AD2?

I have too many AD1 projects that I dont wish to foul...

Thanks!

Hi Keni,
Yes, you can use either one and both will be included in the XLN installer. However, you won't be able to use AD1 sounds in AD2 as they're different engines and you'll need to upgrade all your AD1 stuff to AD2 (if you choose to).

I have the Black Velvet pack which was originally in AD1, but after getting the AD2 upgrade, they're both in there.

Thanks Mesh...

I'm still not certain I understand some of the related issues...

If I already have AD1 installed, must I download it again? Seems like an awful waste of download time for limited internet access situations such as mine...

I know they use different adpacks... Are you saying there's a way to convert AD1 kits to AD2 or simply that the same kits are available to both software versions? Funny I don't remember seeing a Black Velvet kit in the AD1 that came with Sonar Xx...?

I'm gonna have to find a way of demoing the adpacks and such... Offhand, do you know how large the kit downloads (adpacks) are?

TonIght will be another download night for me (I hope - got a short gig first)...

I'm not sure if much else is really needed. I don't recognize some of the extra packages but from the postings I've seen they seem to indicate that all else came with X3 except Craig's amp collection...?

Thanks again!

I'm still confused about this myself. I don't have any ADPaks. I have AD1 with X3E, I have platinum with AD2.
How do I get the default kits in AD1 into AD2?

I'd prefer to abandon AD1 altogether...
I haven't installed AD2 yet, too nervous. Have been reading the posts...

Cheers..

Hey, Keni.

AFAIK, you can pay to upgrade AD1 packs to AD2 packs.

Unless you really need to, I wouldn't bother.  I have AD1 and AD2 working side by side here - though I don't use either much.

And yes, you only need to install Sonar Platinum and Anderton FX Chain Collection (and possibly Sonar Help & Tutorials - not sure).

Hope the gig went well..

From what i've read unless you purchase the AD1 to AD2 "upgrade", all the AD1 sounds will only be usable on AD1. AD2 that came with Platinum is the full version, NOT the upgrade version therefore all AD1 sounds will remain playable on AD1 only.
The 2 platforms do however live happily side by side as mentioned and both can be used in a project simultaneously without issues.

Thanks jb...

I have no need to get the AD1 packs in AD2... I'm just trying to learn and understand...

Funny, but my favorite all around kit uses Session Drummer 3 and a "minor" alteration to one of the Slate kits... I use his Old Zep Dry kit but I've replaced the kick with his sizzle dry kick... Works best for most of my work...

I have used AD1 on a couple of projects... Frequently removing all AD processing and doing my own within Sonar... I imagine it will be much the same with AD2 unless one of their kits really strikes me... It's a fun and very thorough Drum system, but there are a few things I'm not fond of... Such as the overhead "track" which I find difficult to get my cymbals placed the way I would like... And the controls for volume/pan/width in general don't feel comfortable for me... But I get the job done... ;-)

BTW... The gig doesn't start for me until 7-7:30 this evening. Currently 4:40 here... And all I must do is setup one vocal mic and single monitor... Oh and also setting up two mini cams to video the show... I'll stay for the first set or there about and return to my live-in-freezer and darkness... Then wait until midnight to start some downloads...

Just to add.....

I've written to XLN audio to see if there is a way for us Sonar AD2 users to migrate our AD1 sounds. Chances are the answer will be no, but it's worth asking. Stay tuned!
