Yeah,  you tell him Craig..

It most likely means there was a bug in X2 that stopped it creating a new track for each imported file when it was actually supposed to..

Have you tried it in X3?

I can't believe I was able to correct Noel! Unfortunately, though, that may be a sign of the end times.

No, haven't tried it in X3. I have X2 installed on the laptop in my kitchen, where I am having a cup of coffee prior to heading in to Gibson. I can try it on X3 and Platinum there.

There's not many brave enough to try...

All it means though is that it was not intended to work that way.

Once in awhile when I have imported a bunch of wav files they will all be on the same track. This was not expected and though it was an inconvenience it was very simple to drag them to new tracks. The OP has a much bigger problem. I think it had something to do with layers. But don't quote me on that.

This is where OMF comes in very handy.  Maybe its due to Broadcast wave files and how they were handled in older versions.

Does it have anything to do with layers as they existed back then.
If a track has layers on then each clip is imported to a different layer but in the closed layers view appears sequential.

The only thing I can think of is one of the versions had a bug where importing wave files did not place them on sep tracks. I know this happened in one of the X3 updates but we fixed it in a point release.

Also this would only make sense when the wave files contained timestamps. In X3 and Platinum it will import the files on new tracks at their timestamps. Feel free to FR it however. We could have a import checkbox to import into a single track where it places the files back to back as requested.

The only problem then is how to deal with overlaps.

I guess you could implement the usual options, overwrite (earlier by later) or Blend.
Nudging subsequent clips would not make sense on any level.

Noel, that option would be a blessing!
Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts. I'll play around with bouncing all files to a track.

I tried with X3 and Platinum, and it worked as Noel described. So it does seem like there was a bug in X2, unless you like that behavior, in which case it's a feature.

However as pointed out you can simply create a project, import the files, select All, and bounce to create a single track with all the files in the right order.

It would be good to open a track with lanes showing in coming mode. As you import BWFs each would go in its own lane but when you collapse the lanes you have one uniform track without needing to bounce straight away.

Nice project that you're working on.  The only thing I can think of (NO Flames Please!) is to do the import in Reaper - Heal the clips, bounce them out of Reaper and import into Sonar for Editing.  I only suggest this technique since Noel's post seemed pretty clear that this is not a Sonar option.
