Having bought your book just after getting SONAR X3 Producer --- and just before the SONAR Artist/Professional/Platinum release -- I'm hesitant before opening both.
-- How much of your instruction is applicable to the new software's changes?
-- Are there plans for a revised edition?
The book covers the essential core workflows of the SONAR X series and was written using X2. The basics of recording and editing have not changed and all the effects and instruments covered are still there. There is no coverage of Addictive Drums or Nomad Factory bundled effects. The sections on installation cover the old way which will completely different in the new subscription model. The ProChannel QuadCurve EQ now has a large view which was added after the book, so you would need to learn about that elsewhere too. There is however coverage of most of the third part and optional ProChannel modules. Comping has improved somewhat since the book. Also the book features examples using Roland hardware. At the time I wrote the book Roland still owned Cakewalk. Today, it's part of Gibson/Tascam.
On the other hand, I get positive feedback weekly from people that love the book. It's usually a pretty low cost investment. For more up-to-date training, check out Groove3.com for video tutorials.
As far as producing a new edition of the book, that is unlikely. The publisher is no longer focusing on this type book because the quick release cycles make the book out of date less than a year ofter publishing. You could check with them, but I think there is little chance that there will be a new edition.
Thank you for asking!
