  • Addictive Drums (1 and 2) - stereo image is wrong way round?

Addictive drums stereo layout is back to front. As far as I know this happens for all kits. The high hat is slightly left of centre, and the main floor tom is on the right.  This is Ok for a drummer's perspective, or for a left-handed drummer, but not looking straight at a right handed kit from the audience.

Of course it's easy to change in the AD editing. It was like this in AD1, too. Anyone else notice this?

Most drum kits are from the drummers' perspective regardless of who the manufacturer is and most of them have a way to swap it.

the reason they do that is because most music has the drums recorded from the drummer's perspective.  otherwise how would little Johnny be able to play air drums in the correct hands?

XLN only employ left handed drummers...

Cheers Beagle. However, most (I'd say 100%) of music created with Sonar is for the audience perspective.

Little Johnny will have to wire his speakers the other way round (or swap the ear-buds).

I'd say it makes no difference simply because it depends on whether the drummer is left or right handed or a seq track.

When I mix live stuff I always work from audience perspective (allowing for left/right handed drummers), but studio stuff could have instruments panned anywhere at all for effect.  One of my drummer friends (left handed) uses a hi hat on BOTH sides of the kit.

Jerry I agree with your point of view.  As Beagle pointed out most of the drum software offer a way to change this only problem with XLN and AD 1/2 it is not obvious, though it can be done.

Any of the pans can be reversed and if you are not using individual outs and doing the panning within SONAR here is how it is done.

Place your mouse pointer on the the Orange bar in the middle of the pan control left click and drag downwards.
The two width bars will begin to move to the centre and then, when they meet in the centre, keep dragging and the pan control will turn blue moving out wards.  Result the entire kit perspective will be reversed.

All the other pans will work in the same way.

On the edit page of each kit piece the left and right balance also controls the image as well. Side to side controls the balance and up and down controls the image. I don't like how it's implemented but it can be useful.

Wow - - thanks Wookie and Guitarpima - I didn't know about those controls (it's the pan on the Master).  Very useful, thanks.

Route all your drums to a drums bus and put Channel Tools on the drums bus to reverse the image.

Speaking of which, wish Channel Tools was a Pro Channel module...
