Good Evening Everyone!


Well, here I am with another issue, this time it's hiss on the input echo.

I figured I would show what kind of hiss I'm talking about, not sure that will help, but hey, it can't hurt, I suppose! 

So far, I've tried all the different available driver modes, even installed ASIO4ALL to see what would happen, but the most difference I got was a screeching sound with what I think was WASAPI.
I've ruled out all outboard gear, as unplugging it all doesn't affect the hiss whatsoever, nor does reassigning it to different outputs and inputs. Basically, with any input selected, and no outboard gear attached, I still get the same hissing sound.

If it helps any, what I'm wanting to achieve with input echo is a real-time feedback of what I'm playing as altered by the various amp simulations available in Sonar Platinum. As you can imagine, a constant hiss in the input really kills the mood!

If any further information is needed, do let me know and I'll do what i can to provide that information.

Obvious first question: What audio interface?

At the moment, I have two input options: one from my Alesis M1 320 monitors, and another with my built-in sound card, a Realtek brand. As I can't quite figure out how to turn off input echo on the monitors (I don't want to hear both a dry and wet guitar signal, for instance,) I'm leaning towards using the built-in sound card. I've tried out both, though, and the hiss remains constant on either.
I recently bought the monitors, and also re-installed the OS on my computer, so I haven't exactly got a full recording system up and running just yet (for comparison, I was using a Line6 TonePort as an interface before I got the monitors.)

That would explain all the low freq noise if the spectrum you posted is from the Alesis monitors. I would not be surprised to see a lot of hiss/noise from either of those sources. You really need to get a decent quality audio interface. It's not uncommon to have a -60dB noise floor with Realtek.

Mm, that's unfortunate. Do you have any suggestions for a good interface that's under $50? I don't exactly have money right now, but I can always go back to my old TonePort for the time being until I do get the money for something that isn't eight years old!

At that price, I'd search eBay for the major brands, sort by price + shipping lowest first, and see what you can find used. I buy most of my gear used.

I would recommend selling your soul, saving and at least getting one of these:

Scarlett Solo or better still a 2i2.
Maybe you can find them on ebay.

That Scarlett Solo looks like it may be just the thing I need! I knew about the Focusrite line of products, but didn't know they had anything below the 2i2.
Unfortunately with my income being the way it is, it'll certainly be a long time before I can afford that. The good news is that I got my old TonePort back up and running, and it's working just fine with no hiss (I honestly never knew interfaces and such caused hiss until now.) 
It's glitchy due to its age, but it'll work until I can get the Scarlett Solo.
