This is correct. Now if you go 18 months consecutively for example, and then decide to quit, then you keep everything you received for the 18 months. You don't have to do another 12 months (in this case 24 months), another bonus for keeping the membership going. But let's say you renew again 1 year later, you will get the latest version and need to keep the membership for 12 months to keep everything you got on the date of your new renewal. If you opt out after a few months, you will have to rollback to month 18 build. The reason for this is so that customers can't opt out for a year, update for one month and cancel and get everything that's been released in the year they were away. Hope that makes sense.

It seems to me this encourages people, once they're reasonably happy with what they've got (and have done at least 12 months), to stop making payments until the next big thing turns up.  Then start again for at least 12 months.  The hole could be pretty big if nothing of real merit comes along for a while.

There has been mention of a discount for renewing one's sub  membership, but it seems to me that you could get the discount and still jump off the wagon a few months later keeping everything to that date.

Are we really going to see great new things every month ?

If I had a quarter for every time I answered this question, I'd have enough for next year's renewal :)

Yes, you get to choose if you want to renew and yes we have to keep offering you value every month so you stay onboard. This is a good thing for SONAR and customers.

I  subscribed to Platinum today. I have Sonar X3e and my question is this: Do I have to download and reinstall everything I already have? Or can I just download Platinum and the new toys? I can't figure out which option in the command center contains the new stuff (other than Platinum).

Oh second question- Does Platinum install over 3X or should I install it separately?

If you have X3e Producer already installed you just need to install the basic Platinum, Anderton Collection, and possibly the help/tutorials if you want them to be local.

No, it doesn't overwrite X3.

Is there a direct link to try out Demo mode?

I do not believe the trial version is available at this time.

Platinum First impressions.

Platinum downloaded quick from Command Center. I like the Command Center. Maybe because I now associate it with the Addictive Drum freebies! (Worth more than I paid for Platinum!). Command Center had all my products. After  a product is installed the icon turns from red to green. I already had Addictive Drums 2 but I went ahead with AD2 Producer and the product key. I fired up XLN Installer, registered it and got 3 AdPaks and 3 Producer Paks. Not sure if I should have only gotten 3 total. It looked like I could have gotten 9 but the last 3 did not go through. I tried again (feeling like a thief) but no go. I'm not complaining. The free stuff alone was worth the price of admission.

Installed Melodyne. Found existing version. Assumed it was the same because I was prompted for Repair, Modify or Uninstall. I bailed out.

Rapture found itself and did not install.

Dimension Pro re-installed with no option to bail out. It looks fine. Maybe it was updated, I don't know. I thought I had the latest installer.

Overall, no problems with installs.

Fired up Platinum. Checked preferences. Didn't pick up my preferences from X3e. Not a big deal... read on.

Had to set Audio Drivers. It picked up ASIO4All for my MOTU 828 Mk II but the ins and outs were not correct and the correct ones were greyed out. No big deal because every Xx (or Cantabile or Overture or Finale) I installed did the same thing. I just revert to  WDM and re-profile then set it back to ASO4All and all the ins and outs are selectable again.

Had to select MIDI ports.

Had to add VST folders other than Cakewalk defaults. Rescan. All 390 loaded no problems. (Yes I have dupes, one day I'll search for them - been saying that for 20 years. I don't notice anything broken.)

Had to add Control Surfaces.

Again, no big deal.

Exited and restarted. It rescanned VSTs which understandably took a bit. Opened a project. Just had to reset the outs from the Master because of the ASIO/WDM MOTU issue. It loaded up about the same as X3e. Everything was there just how I left it in X3e.

Browsed briefly through the workflow without getting too deep in the new stuff and it was silky smooth. Seems a little quicker than x3e  but I'm only going by feel and not stats.

X3e is still there and the project loads but I have a feeling I'm not looking back.  We shall see once we all explore the new frontiers....

PS: Looks like the first update came out already. It was for the Anderton FX Chain Collection. It looks like when there's an update the product shows a yellow icon (instead of green - installed or red - not installed). I haven't checked out the collection yet so I don't know firsthand why the update but I do have to say that the Command Center doesn't seem to affect the latency. I usually need to shut down WiFi but I haven't and had zero issues. (Of course I'm not browsing or using email).

Never uninstall a previous version.

Install Platinum into a new folder, which should be sorta automatic.
