I do appreciate the journey traveled to "platinum" was not easy.
Google provides 413,000,000 hits for "platinum."
So obviously the use of the word "platinum" is a so very pervasive, so very cool, and so very a clearly Pavlovian ploy. "The Platinum version has to be good, because it is the Platinum version."
Jump on the bandwagon. Add "XP" to everything (2001), and of course one of the most annoyingly current memes: LIGHT GRAY TYPE ON BRILLIANT WHITE BACKGROUNDS.
Just like the insanity spread through the manager's ranks when TABs were introduced. "Put tabs on it. It will increase sales." So tabs were everywhere.
And of course: the "DECLUTTERING" mania of the last few years which has resulted in menus everywhere. Often Tabbed.
All this reminds me of Stuart on Mad TV: "Look what I can do." Just fine for a seven year old.
"Professional should still be top of the line."
