btw Nothing in the new features listed offers me anything I would pay a dime for, but I am probably not your typical user.

Not even the MixRecall? I agree that for the most part based on the current list of new features I could get away with not upgrading and be happy with X3 but the Mix Recall thing is just too valuable for me to outright dismiss all this.

Then again you are probably a better engineer in a better studio than I am so may not want/need to have quick a/b access to alternate mixes.

The new PRV/MIDI stuff and the Vocal Align thingie (if it works somewhat decently on guitars as well as vocals) are very enticing to me as well.

Sorry that is not the way I read it, my "read" is that the $149 upgrade will be for the middle tier Professional (which retails for $199). The Platinum retails for $500. Can you point me to where it definitively states and upgrade from Producer Xe to Platinum will be $149?

First line in the pricing section of https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Versions

So, being an owner of the TOP of the line Sonar Producer Xe, what is the upgrade cost to the new Top of the line Platinum?

As far as I can tell, the $149 upgrade is ONLY for the "professional" or mid-range product.

Pricing for Platinum is $500 (nearer $600 out here) so I would hope there is a significant rebate for people who already have invested in the flagship product already.

The full upgrade to Platinum (the top tier version) for you would cost $149. It apparently will be going up to $199 at some point.

Cheers.

If someone from Cakewalk will write here that the upgrade price from Producer to Platinum (NOT Professional) will be $149 then I will be convinced.

Sure thing... https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Versions

You have to scroll down to the Pricing section and look under the "I own Sonar X3" entry under Platinum.

Cheers.

I'd be more curious about the "content" portion of the subscription. I made the jump to Cubase after X3, but since the $149 upgrade is just a little over the price of the included AD producer pack alone, it may still be worth it. So what kind of content is expected here?

This is AWESOME...I've...errr...been away from recording for a few years now, but this new model is awesome.  I don't understand what drawbacks people see.  Pay up front ($149) or monthly ($14.99) and you OWN Sonar X4 and all the updates/additions that come available over the next year - you want X5 (and the next year of updates)?   Pay all at once or in monthly installments again a year from now.  You don't lose anything you already have even if you go for Pro over Platinum.  And logging into the Cakewalk Store or recieving a surprise e-mail with a cool update, well, you can say "I want to pay for what's already in the product" if you feel obligated to defend the centuries old purchase model, but I'm down for gettin with the times!

Thanks, yeah it was a page loading glitch when I clicked on the link from the OP.

Although a follow up question would be does the ensuing $14.99 per month still apply after the end of the first year (assuming one pays the $149).

Or does the "subscription" then revert to the $49.99 per month thereafter?

Currently these... https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Up-Next#start

I'm assuming that page will be updated regularly. Unfortunately not much description of the upcoming features but the virtual keyboard is useful (I always wondered why we didn't have one). Drum replacement... well we can already do that but it's a pain so maybe it's a new tool to make it easier. QuickFX? No idea... maybe a hyper awesome FX Chain module.

Cheers.
