And this new subscription model is out for what, 0 years? I think it's pretty understandable when there's some kind of questioning on that model, isn't it?

Yes, but apparently a lot of people aren't reading the answers

he DAW is just a fancy new pen, and it seems that by buying into it at the upgrade price I am surrendering my licence to the subscription model and to terms that are subject to change as well- that can actually be a very dear cost down the road. Sorry CW, but Im a little too wary (or paranoid, if you prefer) to buy into this scheme.

Please, it's not a subscription (rental) model! You get to keep the software (it's not surrendered to anything) and once you've paid for it, it doesn't expire. If the price goes up too much for your taste, you're not forced to renew to keep using the software....

Not sure why a lot of people having a problem understanding Cakewalk's new model. I got it the first time I read their blurb. If they did, the 30 pages (so far) on this thread would only be 6 pages long.

I'm sold - I think it's going to be brilliant

I've pre-purchased my copy now (X3 producer to Platinum)  from JRR for $125.16 (with the GROUP 16% off code)

I'm going to JRR right now!!  Thanks for the heads up!

I'm sorry if my question has already been answered but I've read half of this thread and I didn't see anything about it:

I have a serial number for X3 Producer which hasn't been registered yet. Will I get the new version when it's released if I postpone the registration of the X3 serial number?

No. There is no reason to wait to register X3 and start using the product you purchased.

personally i think it's good news for everyone, although i barely get time to turn my DAW PC on these days i will subscribe as the cheapest way for me to stay current, assuming we in the UK don't get ripped off (i will expect US price + 20% VAT at or very near current exchange rates! so currnetly 14.99 USD + 20% and converted via xe.com = £11.86/mon)

£11.90/mo including VAT. Pretty close.

I just pre-ordered! I'm looking forward to the ever improving Sonar, and wish myself and the bakers a happy new year of recording and creating.

Oh, OK. I thought I'd ask if there was a "grace period" or some similar benefit.

I think that's Geetars.

Hey, I resemble that remark.

I mean some people are acting like we're dealing with some brand new sketchy upstart company looking to take the money and run. For sure if that were the case I would most certainly not drop any coin but I also wouldn't bother angrily posting about it like I had already been ripped off.

Think about... Cakewalk has been around for what? 20? 30 years? They are now owned by Gibson who have been around for what? 60? 70? 80 years?! I really don't think they are gonna pull the software equivalent of a smash and grab at this point.

Cripes.

Why does my '14 LP have a 120th Anniversary inlay at 12?  :)
