I think I got it.  Hallelujah!  One more question.  Are both of the following paths required?

c:\program files (x86)\cakewalk\vstplugins
c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins

The x86 path is for 32 bit software, and the other is 64 bit.
Sonar can run both bit-depths under most circumstance.

Not really. It depends on what is in the 32 bit path. If its basically a copy of the 64 bit path then there is no reason to keep it. On the other hand there still are some few VSTs that have not been updated to 64 bits. If you have some of these and still want to use them you will want to keep that path.

I just include any scannable folders, and use Plug-In Manager to exclude the 32-bit versions if 64-bit versions are available.

Its a bad idea to have both the x86 and x64 paths together. It will slow down the scan time since plugins will get scanned twice once for 32 and once for 64. If its X64 you only need the 64 bit path. Any 32 bit plugins that you wish to use for both 32 bit and 64 bit should be moved into a specific folder and you can add just that folder to the scan path.

SONAR automatically shows the preferred bit depth when a conflict exists but some plugins have a different name for 32 and 64 and you will end up with two names in the menus which is confusing.
