  • migrating mp3 encoder from X1 to Pro?

I just upgraded if you could call it that from X1 Producer to Professional but the Lame mp3 encoder didn't get picked up on the install. It works fine in X1 on the same computer but I can't find how to get it to work on Professional. I've checked the external coder configuration utility under both versions & they appear identical. The only difference is on X1 I can export mp3 with Lame & with Professional it tells me i need to unlock the encoder. Any ideas?

I have no authorization file that I know of & if there was I wouldn't know how to reimport into the registry .
When I bought X1 I'm pretty sure that Lame was integrated into the installation files that I downloaded.
The reason I say that is because I installed X1 on my new computer about two weeks ago & Lame was installed with the program. I had no other versions of Cakewalk installed that it could have migrated from.

Uit was free years ago. You also need the right CW mp3 encoder depending on the version of Sonar you have. You can buy it or just create your own. There are many threads explaining in detail how to accomplish this for free using lame

Me, I'm lazy, I bought it for Sonar 3 and it works for Plat also. So, your call.

A 30 day trial was installed with X1. There is no free license for the embedded mp3 encoder. Either purchase the license from the Cakewalk store or use an external encoder. Cakewalk provides a tool in SONAR to call external encoders in the Utilities menu. Should you elect to purchase the encoder, it is a one-time purchase good for every version of SONAR.

I don't remember having to purchase Lame but I've had the encoder for more than a year & it still works in X1.
I never understood this purchase an mp3 encoder bs. Come on Cakewalk charge me for it up front & put it on the installation files but don't make me jump through hoops when i install another version. I've been on the site for 20 minutes & I can't even find how to pay the money to unlock it if i wanted to. It ain't the $10 or $20 , it's the principal that you pay for a software package & this is what you get. They could have at least put a link that takes you right to the purchase place instead of a link to cakewalk.com. If you're going to be petty about charging me for something that should be included, at least don't make it hard to pay for it too. I've been with Cakewalk for a lot of years so I'll get through it & put up with it but i wouldn't if i was a new customer.

It was not clear if this thread involved the embedded encoder or not. If you set up an external encoder before, the process is the same in Platinum; use the External Encoder Configuration Utility in the Tools menu.

Yet another example of why this should simply be included instead of making people jump through hoops :)

It must be embedded because I deleted all the encoders in the Encoder Config in X1 & I can still export to mp3.
Maybe it's because I upgraded from Pro Audio Deluxe to X1 Producer. Either way I've tried all the fixes I could read on this site & nothing has worked. I even downloaded another version of Lame & tried to install it but that didn't work either. It only gives me the "must unlock" no matter what I do. No reason for Cakewalk to be so petty & cause this much trouble. They have a great program at a great price & yet they found a way to screw it up with something so simple. I shouldn't have to be a computer geek to export an mp3 & I shouldn't have to pay an extra dime for something that is so commonly used. It's like flying Spirit airlines & getting charged for a carry on but you don't know until you get to the airport.

If you upgraded to the 64 bit version of sonar you'll need to request a 64 bit version of the encoder from cake customer servjce (your pro audio purchase is valid). Just email them and they'll send you the 64 bit version.
