This question has probably been asked and answered, so please forgive the redundancy:
 
If I choose to pay monthly, do I have to have my DAW computer connected to the internet at all times?
 
I keep my DAW computer offline, except for the rare occasions when I download something. Maybe I am being over-cautious, but this policy has kept me remarkably free from problems for the last few years.  The answer to this question will help me determine which way to go for my purchase.

There is never a requirement to connect the DAW to the internet. Paying monthly will require authorization monthly. Some PC will need access to the internet to perform the authorization. Here is a video describing the process http://youtu.be/roIgly_GjoI
