Synths do occasionally show up as effects. Could be a bad install of the plug-ins or a bad scan. Not sure if changing the plug-ins to synths in plug-in properties will work. Most likely a chance to re-install the plug-ins and run a VST reset. The scanner is a shared utility that is overwritten with every Cakewalk and BandLab DAW update. Installing CbB gets the latest version of the scanner.

Johnny, I am using the new free Cakewalk, you must have misunderstood my earlier remark. But thanks for the graphic, that at least tells me it is not a bug, but likely a bad install, as scook suggested.

scook: I'll uninstall SI, reinstall and then see what happens.

Right on, I wonder if checking the "Re Scan failed Plug ins"  will work.. worth a try. It's found under Options in the Plug in Manager

Not likely, the plug-ins scanned but not as instruments. Failed plug-ins don't show up at all and end up in the Excluded List. Reset might work because it clears the VST Inventory and rebuilds it from scratch.

BTW, all those options are in Preferences > File > VST Settings. For years, Noel has recommended using Preferences and not the Plug-in Manager for running the scanner.

If definitely shows up under synths. In VSTi instruments. Each Studio instrument is listed with an SI in front of iyt. Like SI-Bass Guitar. This is in the band lab version also.

Yes, that is the normal situation but sometimes things do go wrong. I have seen reports of DPro showing up in the FX list.

I have occasionally used the scan in Preferences, will try to do that from now on. I'll try the Reset option before uninstalling/reinstalling.

Actually, I got scared to use the Reset option as it said it would reset all my VST's to default values. I'm not sure what this means, but until I have clarification I don't want to risk losing my already loaded-up synths.

I unistalled/reinstalled, but same thing, they are not coming up as synths, but rather in the Uncategorized section of the audio fx listing. Weird. I went with all the defaults in my install of Cakewalk, didn't do anything different, chose to install all the content as my latest version was 8.5. This is the only problem I've encountered.

Michael - Have you tried "configure as synth" in the synth properties page?
