• SONAR
  • Console View Strips selection?

Hi-

Selecting which type of tracks to display in the Console doesn't seem to be working as expected here. For example:

1. I have 2 Simple Instrument tracks and 1 MIDI track displayed in the Console with Audio, MIDI and Instrument all checked under Strips.

2. I click Strips > MIDI to uncheck it.  Audio and Instrument remain checked.

Result: All 3 tracks disappear from the Console view.
Expected result: Only the MIDI track would disappear. The 2 Instrument tracks would remain visible.

Can anyone else repro this or am I not understanding how these selections are supposed to work?

Thanks-

Hi Susan. You're expectation is correct; only the unchecked track type should go away. I did a quick test with a project started in X3, and it worked as expected. I'm guessing the one you're working with might have started in X1 or earlier...? Shouldn't be a problem, but it would't be the first time that an older project behaved oddly in a new release.

Hi brundlefly-

Thanks for checking. No, this was started in Platinum. It's possible that the tracks were separate Audio/MIDI that I turned into a Simple Instrument after the fact, though, so I'll start another project from scratch to see if I can repro. I still think it should be able to distinguish the track types, but then again I'm baby-stepping my way through at this point  !

Thanks again-

Hi Susan.

I've seen weird things happening like this for a very long time in Sonar.

I use the 'H' shortcut to display/hide tracks but more often than not, I'll have to switch back & forth between Console & Track views, sometimes 2 or 3 times before  any of my changes 'stick'.

Hi Bristol_Jonesy

Well, the latest weird thing I have happening is your same post appearing 5 times!

Thanks. I know about using "H." I don't think this is working as intended, though.

Yes I don't know what happened there, I just edited the duplicates.

Hi Susan - that's strange. This bug occurred in X3 for me and when i upgraded to Platinum this was one i checked and it seemed to work properly, which led me to believe this was one of the many bugs cake fixed. I'll take another look but it might be a bit more difficult to reproduce since i know it dfinitely worked right here at least once.

Hi-

I started a new project in Platinum and had no problem reproducing it. Here are my steps:

1. Insert Addictive Keys as a Simple Instrument track.
2. Insert Strum Acoustic as a Simple Instrument track.
3. Insert a new MIDI track.

The Console View > Strips has Audio, MIDI and Instrument strips checked and all three are visible (Addictive Keys, Strum Acoustic and the additional MIDI track.)

I unchecked MIDI and all three disappeared.

Thanks-

I'm not understanding...they are all technically MIDI tracks?...
When you "unchecked MIDI"....did you uncheck the three boxes or...?    because the "MIDI" button just shows which tracks are MIDI (versus audio)....

edit...I was going to the track manager for the CV.    but the "strips" menu is the same I'd think.  They are all MIDI tracks, so that's why they took a leave of absence.

btw...I created an identical session as yours, and it behaved the same.  as expected, I'd think.

No, I only unchecked "MIDI".  The other options are "Audio" and "Instrument."  What does "Instrument" mean in this context if not "Simple Instrument"?  If "Simple Instrument" tracks are considered "MIDI" tracks (which makes some sense, I admit, but they're also "Audio" tracks) then why have separate Strips options for "Instrument" and "MIDI"? Another way to put it, what should be displayed if only "Instrument" is checked in the Strips option?

Thanks-
