always go by the checkboxes.  sits have a midi plug icon next to them which means they are classified as midi.  i agree this should be the changed to have sits grouped in their own category.  unfortunately, they aren't.
what I typically do is ctrl+click each track i want to hide and press the spacebar which will uncheck them.  the audio/synth/midi buttons are toggle switches so if an item is unchecked and you click the toggle button it will select them all and when you press space it inverts the checkbox.  once you get used to it it is fairly easy to use.

It appears "MIDI" and "Audio" are if you have your VSTi tracks separated.  When your VSTi is a simple instrument track...it is just the MIDI...or acts like that choice, and click on/off with the MIDI button.  "Audio" therefore does nothing.  Instrument is a "live" track, so to speak that you'd record thru your interface, etc.

I think you're talking about the Track Manager.  I'm not; I'm talking about the Strips drop-down in the Console View. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Thanks-

or hit "h" and check the boxes via the track manager in the associated views.  They can be different then in the TV and CV.

Hi-

Are you sure?  I haven't seen "Instrument Track" used that way, but I'll look into it.

Thanks-

Hi Susan, I think when I checked, I was mistaking synth tracks (i.e. Audio track with soft synths a input) for "Instrument Tracks". Now I see that (Simple) Instrument tracks are being treated as a subset of MIDI tracks. So you can show only pure MIDI tracks or MIDI plus Simple Instrument tracks by having them both checked, but if you uncheck MIDI, you lose both types. This makes some sense, but I don't really think it was intended.

X3 works the same. Probably worthy of a problem report.

oh gotcha susan.
weird thing here is that to show midi tracks in split audio/midi softsynth layouts I have to have midi AND instrument selected.  I guess I see what's going on.  I agree... completely counter-intuitive...

I agree... this entire thread IS a problem report!  Cake should sort this out...

MODS???

for a long time I've been frustrated by console view... too many empty tracks between active tracks if you use templates... the things you're mentioning are cludgy and don't deal with this basic issue... Personally I thing the entire console "view" options should be redone, with options for "only show tracks with data", with subsets for "audio only", "midi only", "audio and midi" and track folders... sorry to hijack but the console view system just SUCKS!!!

With growing templates, better view management, including correcting Susan's observations should be a top priority...Pleeeeeeeeeze????

Hi brundlefly-

I agree it makes some sense, but since it doesn't seem to bother anyone else, I don't think I'll make a problem report.  I'm fine just understanding why it works the way it does and it's such a jumping through hoops for me to file a problem report for such a trivial thing, I think I won't.  If it becomes easier to file a problem report for Platinum at some point, maybe I will.

Thanks very much-

That's definitely an oversight on CW's part. The instrument option in the menu shouldn't be there at all if their code can't target a combined instrument track. The track manager works because it's only targeting the track, regardless of what kind of track it is. The menu option in CV needs to differentiate between types of tracks, and it obviously has a problem identifying an instrument track. Or someone started to program the option but forgot to finish. Either way, the option should be removed until it actually works correctly.
