  • Depending on your new Sonar version - What should we install / not install?

Hi Guys,

I have Platinum. As we know their is also Artist and Professional.

Because i wanted Sonar installed on the D: Drive I went the "Manual" install route. I downloaded everything from my online Cakewalk account and installed.

Now I am wondering as a Platinum owner what should I / should I not install from the following:

- AndertonCollectionSetup_1.0.0.8
- ArtistInstrumentCollectionSetup_1.0.0.7
- BoutiqueFXSuiteSetup_1.0.0.7
- CakewalkLoopmastersContent_1.0.0.7
- CakewalkSampleMagicLoopContent_1.0.0.7
- CakewalkSoundCenterSetup_1.0.0.7
- CakewalkX-MiXLoopContent_1.0.0.7
- ClassicCreativeFXSetup_1.0.0.7
- EngineeringFXSuiteSetup_1.0.0.7
- PlatinumInstrumentCollectionSetup_1.0.0.7
- SONARHelp&Tutorials_1.0.0.7
- StudioInstrumentsSuiteSetup_1.0.0.7
- StudioMixingFXSetup_1.0.0.7

I assume as a Platinum owner I DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL "Artist Instrument Collection". I should install "Platinum Instrument Collection"??

Observation - Their is no Pro Instrument Collection ..

What is  Cakewalk Sound Center Setup?

I notice this installs Dimension pro sample files - a large amount of data even if you dont have Dimension pro installed.

This brings me to another thing - I do not want nor have I installed either Dimension pro or Rapture. Even so - some of the above setups install elements from both Dimension pro or Rapture.

I also notice that a few of the setups above multiple install the dimension pro sample folder into Program Files on C Drive or Program Data on C Drive.  This happens even though I have elected to install everything on my D: Drive.

Appreciate your thoughts ... Thanks in advance

All of the installers are used to create a full Platinum install. Some of the installers are shared by the other versions. There should also be separate installers for DimPro and Rapture. Cakewalk Sound Center is a DimPro/Rapture player so it uses some of the DimPro and Rapture content.

Hi Scook,

So we should install the lot??

As i said I dont want Dimension Pro nor rapture. I realise they both have separate installs BUT even if they are not installed you definitely get that large Dimension pro samples folder installed from a few of these installers I mentioned above.

So what do you do after you get this unwanted stuff? You cannot uninstall it individually. And as i said - it dumps stuff onto my C Drive though I did not ask for that, particularly into the Program Files (x86) folder and Program data / Cakewalk.

I understand some stuff has to be installed on the C Drive but I dont need the likes of dimension pro content. It takes up a large amount of space also ..

You said "Cakewalk Sound Center is a DimPro/Rapture player so it uses some of the DimPro and Rapture content."

So if someone does not need Dimension Pro or Rapture they do not need to install Cakewalk Sound Center?

Ok,

SESSION DRUMMER 3 gets installed via the "Artist Instrument Collection Setup" - into the C Drive Program Files / Cakewalk folder - near 1gb of data. You dont get a choice as to where it gets installed ..

Not sure why this is not installed in selected VST Folder or shared components folder at your selected location?

The Studio Instruments from the "Studio Instruments Suite Setup" - all go to the Program Files folder on the C Drive even though my main install and vst installs are all on my D Drive. Studio Instruments folder is 1.21GB of data.

BTW - I am not gripping about space being used up - even though it is considerable. But some of us might have our systems organised a bit. Using the C Drive mainly for op sys related stuff. Programs and mainly data on the D Drive type thing. Even though you elect to install Sonar on another drive it seems it still dumps 3 to 4 GIGABYTES of stuff on the C Drive ..

AFAIK, the only DimPro and Rapture content installed from the list above relates to Cakewalk Sound Center.

What parts you choose to install is up to you. All of the installers above are part of a full SONAR Platinum installation. If all you want is the core progam, the installer is SONAR_Platinum_Setup_21.0.1.254.exe, the rest are plug-ins and other content.

Sample folders are easily redirected using mklink. If you perform a google search using
site:forum.cakewalk.com scook mklink
There are quite a few threads with examples of how to relocate data. Here is one of them http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3155382

The Cakewalk Sound Center Setup seems to be mainly Dimension pro Multi sample files. These get setup - again on the C Drive but this time in the Program Files ( x86 ) / Cakewalk folder then "VstPlugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples" - Here you end up with a Dimension Pro and Rapture folder even if you do not have Dimension pro OR Rapture installed.

Size: 553MB

Just an FYI to y'all ..

Maybe something for the devs to sort :D .. :

1. organise the installs a bit better
2. allow alot of the above to have a choice of where to install it IF YOU WANT IT
3. that CC allows you to choose where you wish to install each setup

Thanks Scook, might have a look at that mklink thing.

All the other stuff is great - The setups for all that install to my D Drive OR where ever you elected from the Platinum install itself.

Its the Sound Center setup, Instruments Suite Setup, Artist Instrument Collection Setup that install to C drive / Program Files - no option to tell it elsewhere.

In Fact Scook ... If i do not have Dimension Pro or Rapture installed can I manually and safely delete that Program Files ( x86 )\Cakewalk\VstPlugins\Cakewalk Sound Center\Modules\Multisamples folder??

I asked exactly the same thing and I still haven't attempted an install as I am not confident that it will run smoothly.
I really hope someone from CW can give us some precise instructions instead of leaving us (mostly) to guess.
I wish I had waited now instead of jumping straight in for the upgrade to Platinum, especially as I only upgraded to X3 in December!
There is another issue, does my 12 months (I paid upfront) begin from the time I purchased or the time I install, and thus register?
Thanks for any help.

If you purchased from a retailer and received a redemption code your 12 months starts with redemption, not purchase/paid (as CW does not know about your purchase until you redeem).

If you purchased directly from CW, your 12 months started at purchase/payment as that is a "redemption/registration".
