  • SFZ is crashing Platinum

I tried loading SFZ to an existing project, but it fails to load and Platinum eventually times out trying. This project has Ivory II and AD2 in place, but no other synths.

I tried with a blank project, and SFZ loads fine.

Any ideas why it fails one project, and not another?

I'm not actually planning to use it, just poking around to see what I can do.

New Platinum upgrade, Win7 64bit, 16gb ram, i3 processor, M-Audio M-Track Quad interface.

You might try stripping down a copy of the project in which it doesn't work until you find the conflicting element.

Yeah, SFZ is a staple of mine, and so far I have not seen any problems with it in Platinum.

Thinking back, I had this same issue with SFZ in X3 Pro. I will test the breakdown project later today. Thanks!

Try a VST reset. Then do a VST rescan.
I think there are other free SFZ players out there...

Cheers..

That was easy to work out. I opened the project that SFZ was crashing on, removed Ivory II, and it installed just fine. So I closed, then reopened the same project - leaving Ivory II in place. SFZ crashed Sonar when I added it.

It just doesn't play well with other piano synths, apparently.

Hi Penciartish,

This may have something more to do with 32 bit memory addressing.  I saw something similar in some of my projects that had other synths loaded and then I tried to add DXI synths like Pentagon and PSN.  They seemed to crash those project every time. But when I would open an new project. I could load them fine. So I went back into my old project and deleted all of the synths and added the DXI synths.. They all loaded. I then added the other 64 bitVST synths back and was able to save the project as a template. Not sure but it appears to me that the older DXI 32 bit synths are more comfortable addressing that initial < 4gb memory addresses.  So when they load first for me they don't seem to crash... My two Pence.

That makes perfect sense, LunaTech. It's a good thing I don't really need these old synths, but I'm never afraid to test my resolve and hear something that could change my thinking. It would be a good idea to create a template or two for just such experimentation, whether I use them or not.
