• SONAR
  • Sonar X3 with Roland System-1? ((SOLVED))

So I bought this from my local GC the other day, and I've had a ton of issues with it. I love the sound, so i'm being tenacious with it. For those of you unfamiliar with it, its a VST3 hardware synth that can host plugin engines inside (Roland calls them "plug outs" because you can operate the plugin inside the hardware without a computer connected)

Installation was painful: it took many installs/uninstalls to get it right. I had to delete it completely (and out of Sonar as well, rescan, reboot, etc) One time it took, and I could communicate with the hw and I sent the SH-101 into it-- which also sounds great on its own. The hardware worked like a charm, including via MIDI. However, I've never got the plugin synth to make a sound inside Sonar, and now I can not communicate with it.

Has anyone got this to work inside Sonar?

Figured it out.

In order to make it work, you have to tell Sonar to only select System-1 MIDI driver on the input and output. I was mistakenly doing both the System-1 and the System-1-CTRL

However, the plugin is still not sounding inside Sonar. Everything else works as expected.

hey, i got a system-1 myself a couple of month ago, i lke the sound, very carpenteresque.

i got a noob question for you : do you require a midi interface or is the usb enough to use it as a controller ?
let me know if you found a way to make it sound inside sonar, i'll be glad to hear what you have to say.

thanks.

Note : i'm under win7.

Hey Zethib--- are you able to get sound out of the plugin?
I cannot get it to work at all. I've been going back and forth with Roland Tech Support for about a month and they cant figure it out either.

The only way I can get the plugins to sound is to hit the "randomize" button inside of Cakewalk. Then it just drones on and on.
(The hardware works and sounds fantastic, which is the only reason i'm keeping it)

I was able to get this resolved.
For some reason, the VST synths from Roland work when inserted via the synth rack, but not via the right click that I've been using to insert synths for years. Bug opened.
