  • Using a cowbell instead of a crash to end a fill

I came across the following video this morning. It's a bit hyperbolic (especially the title), but it presents an interesting idea. And, it could give me a chance to use VI Labs (of True Keys pianos fame) free True Cowbells instrument for UVI Workstation or Falcon.

Thoughts?

Was that posted on April 1st by any chance?

I was wondering similarly. I took to hitting the cat, but could only get one epic fill in before it would run off. I am personally wary of hitting cowbells after being kicked a couple of times.

This is great! I loved it. This guy is a nice player! I have just put my cowbell back on now. It is a very clear indication of where that beat is.  In some ways clearer than a crash, the crash is extending over a few beats.  A complex sound that sustains a lot.  The cowbell is clear, and over quick.

You can also transfer some of the right hand closed hat parts over to the cow bell. The pattern sounds awesome in that mode. The bell lets you clearly hear the part.  It is a powerful tool to have attached to the kit.  It is good to try different bells too.  Bigger deeper ones are sometimes very good on the kit.

This made me smile a lot  Thanks John!

You could try throwing yourself off the stool and headbutting the fridge on the '1', that would be over pretty quick too.

Seriously...''this is the most incredible drum technique in the entire world''

It's a good thing my former Martial Arts Master & friend was a bass player .The refrigerator never would have stood a chance if he was a drummer

You're most welcome!

And thank you and your countrymen for the AFL and the NRL! Fox Sports carries matches from both in the US. I became a fan of the North Sydney Bears while (whilst) working in Sydney in 1999...their last year in the NRL before getting kicked out. Talk about picking a loser! [facepalm] But I have yet to see a cooler home ground than the Bears had. What a great place to spend an afternoon!

Hey, I did the proper Ed McMahon thing...I tee'd it up!

That said, I like this idea. Now there's a use for the four cowbells in AD2.
