  • Audio artifacts from adaptive limiter?

Using the adaptive limiter starts emitting audio artifacts about 1/2 way through a tune.
If I only substitute the BT Brickwall Limiter the artifacts disappear.  I've tried this in several projects and with different settings - it really looks like the Adaptive Limiter is the culprit?

Has anyone else experienced this?
Any tips how to use this plugin without artifacts?

The Adaptive Limiter is more CPU intensive. You'll have to increase your your buffer. If your at 256, I would try 512.

I am assuming the artifacts are of clicks/pops and such?

I would do as leadfoot suggests. Try that and see what happens. Let us know if it works for you after you make adjustments.

That is what I suggested when the OP posted a few days ago http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3783035

I'm having the same problem in a mastering project with one stereo track and two VSTs installed. It's definitely the Adaptive Limiter, and I've tried increasing and decreasing buffer settings with no effect. Any other suggestions?

What did you increase the buffer to?

I wonder if the OP's issue is related to graphics problems some of us encountered when the Adaptive Limiter and LPMB/LPEQ were introduced in SONAR. These plugins could cause slow graphics and sometimes audio issues when using older graphics cards.  Although, I wouldn't imagine this particular issue would occur with newer Win10 based PCs.  But, the OP doesn't include specs.

It might be worth trying this work-around if you have an older graphics card and/or running Win7:
1.) Edit:  C:\Cakewalk Content\Adaptive Limiter\Settings\LIMITER.cws
2.) Carefully, Edit and Change  EnableOpenGL="0"
It would be prudent to create a copy of the LIMITER.cws file in case something goes wrong.

I'm not sure whether the LIMITER.cws file path is the same for Cakewalk by Bandlab. Perhaps someone would verify.

See  http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3555087  to read about the original issue (LP MB & LP EQ) in early 2017.

I suspect Tom's on the right track. AL uses GPU acceleration, which may be incompatible with some older graphics adapters. That's why there's an option to turn off GPU acceleration, as Tom describes above.

Where exactly that config file lives depends on your path settings in Cakewalk. I think it's relative to your projects folder; at least, that's where mine is located (D:\Projects\Adaptive Limiter\Settings).

Another thought: even though your video adapter is old, there may still be a newer driver available for it. It would be worth your time to check with the vendor. If you can fix this issue with Adaptive Limiter, it may head off future problems with other plugins as well, since AL isn't the only plugin using hardware acceleration these days. I know the multi-band compressor does, too, as well as most plugins from FabFilter, Waves and Meldaproduction.

As a last resort, you could try uninstalling the vendor-supplied driver that came with your adapter and let Windows default to the generic Windows driver.

The L-Phase plug-ins are not bundled with CbB.
