I got so confused and wondered what I was listening for, but my score was 83%.

This is great. I posted it over on another forum and a snob told me they had already had perfect pitch tests before.
Whatever. I liked it.

Hearing that most of us can pick up on it if the "same phrase" is played, is it better to choose "different" 90% of the time in order to improve your tonedeafness score by 7%?

This test reminds me of an event at a Chick Corea concert I attended ages ago. At one point Chick came to the front of the stage with a strap-on keyboard, played a short phrase, and asked the audience to sing it back. I was surprised at how well the audience did with it. But I was even more surprised as the phrases got longer and more complex. I had no idea there were so many people in my city who could sing back complex jazz phrases. I sure couldn't.

It's the extra r's and f in the headline that let me know it really is scientific!

I loved the sound that you hear to do the volume test. Sounds like something Tangerine Dream would use. I have sampled it! I got 82%. It is a cool test. Some of the longer phrases are pretty difficult. I think sometimes you have to just go with a gut feeling rather than trying to analyse them or think about them too much.
