HARDDRlVER
Hello.
If I may point out...
Most of the replies to changing or moving the forum...they all mention the same thing: as long as 'this' or 'that' stays the same...
Then why change it?
I appreciate my daw being picked up and maintained by a company that truly sees value in this product, but why fix something (this forum) that's not broken?
No matter what you change, there will be those who will be unhappy with a new format, just as there are some who are not happy with this one. You'll just be trading nay-sayers.
I'd rather see the grateful effort (...and, thank you, believe me) you're making, go into a reliable rock solid daw...
I purchased the platinum lifetime daw (full version, not an upgrade) January 2017. My first daw, ever. What wonderful musical days lay ahead of me...then in less than a year the rug was pulled out from under me.
I just want what I paid for.

Just my two synths...

A valid observation - here is some of the points for why I think the software needs updating:
  • Many times, if you edit a post it goes hiding and requires a forum moderator to return it to view
  • Often, when posting, the post gets duplicated - leading to a need to either ignore the duplicates or to clean up the threads
  • The search function is wonky and mostly doesn't really work - I found most answers to questions I've had by using Google to search rather than use the search here. If an external search engine can find it, surely the internal one should be able as well.
I think there were many other nits to pick with this forum software, but these are the ones I can remember and as wonky searches are one of them, I won't be searching for the others....

Thanks, Meng. :) Glad to see you're willing to get some new forums going.

XenForo has one of the best forum development teams out there and a lot of functionality can be connected from existing website accounts into the forum software which are reasons I recommend it these days. They also might be able to have a way to transfer the existing forum database to a new one within XenForo rather than just having to archive it which would be great because we'd also get access to the search function within it. Wouldn't be opposed to the actual threads being archived though and starting new with new ones.

Really love the look of this forum so a similar design would be welcome.

A suggestion: provide a thread in the current forum where people can list any extremely valuable posts that should be brought across to the new forum. Then bring those ones across only.

I remember when the forum was last changed to it's present format. The update was reasonably seamless and the format change seemed like a step in the right direction at the time. At that time there was no problem with keeping all the old posts, and everyone could keep their names and their details, and threads seemed to remained relatively intact. I've no objection to a change, although you haven't explained why this is the most critical question to be answered at this time. Is the Forum hosted on the Cakewalk servers? If so, are they being shut down now that Bandlab has acquired Sonar?
If it's just a question of putting the forum onto Bandlab's servers for ease of functionality then I have no problem with that.
As you've quite rightly noted, the forum here is a big part of the Sonar world and I hope that community is of value to Bandlab and is worth keeping. I don't know much about this part of Cakewalk, but I'm sure there is great Forum software out there and "a change is as good as holiday" so they say. Please be aware that the Cakewalk community is going through more of a "leave of absence" rather than just a holiday at this point in time, so I for one would like the change to be as seamless as possible. I will leave this most important decision in what I am sure is your capable hands and look forward to the future. Good luck with your venture going forward.

I think BandLab wants to start fresh and I can't blame them for wanting to do that
