One of the things I find appealing about the layout of this site is the small avatar and brief info about the poster easily seen after you click on a main header. Clicking on a thread shows even more info on the user and the hardware/software they use.
I notice most forum software has more plain headers with far less description and less information seen about posters.
The use of white gives this forum a nice clean look. The fonts are not crowded. The main feel here is one of openess. Nothing looks or feels crowded. It really is a friendly appealing inviting look as many have said. I would hope we could keep something similar for the sake of familiarity and feel.
With over 6000 posts dare I say it has been addicting. I am usually here looking around every day during the week.

Meng, to me it sounds like her asking...but that's cool...I'm looking forward to seeing how all this plays out. I can say that I think the reason users preferred the forum and Cakewalks offerings is because they liked them...and too many big changes I think are not a good thing if you want to keep those that haven't already moved on. (and to be honest, I don't think what I've seen of BandLab is where they went )

LOL  my avatar may change too. For a little while I reckon.
The forum is not why I use Sonar. Never was and won't be so "go with your feelings" gets my vote. Entirely different though when it comes to Sonar...you know what happened to her. Good luck Meng.

I see no problem with that. As long as the existing content is not lost in the process, migrating not required as you say that would coplicate things, but at least keeping it accessible for reference purposes since it is basically a big help/support/resource container at this point.

Invision's good. As is VBulletin. Don't care much for phpBB though -- but you didn't mention it, so no worries.

I think locking/archiving the existing threads in a searchable configuration is probably the best way to go -- least number of hassles for sure.

I am, however, hoping that in all this info transition that you do have our email addresses so that we may be kept abreast of such movement.  That would indeed be a big help in the transition.  Thank you.

I understand wanting a fresh start with a newly branded product and forum. It will be harder for me to identify who has been a member of the community for a long time verses someone trolling with a new account. That will work itself out over time, but there are dynamics such as that which will be lost.

I am a user since the late 1990s.  I have not been much involved before now.  However, since so much is happening so fast, and user input is vital, I will be more active.

I have no opinion that is based on usage preferences about moving the forum to a new software platform.  I only think it is important that new users as well as -ahem- seasoned users be able to search all fora for solutions.
On another note, I was ecstatic to learn that someone had purchased Cakewalk, and to have the CEO (or a highly trusted surrogate) personally address those of us who have invested time, talent and treasure in making this such a wonderful tool is super-encouraging.  By this alone you retain our loyalty.

I agree with what another user said, that in anticipation of a total sunset, I was starting to search for and work with other DAWs.  Seeing this news tells me I can continue to build my skillset here to produce the best music possible.  Thank you so much for not saying, "my money, my stuff, my way," which was perfectly your right to do.
