Things change. I'm sure you'll try to do it in a way that doesn't disrupt the community too much.

We'll adapt.

Good idea, one other thing would be a modified TOS close to the original in tone(which I believe you have thought of) and some new moderation staff not tied to the legacy program would help some.

I believe the direction your taking so far is exemplary.

Then let me be the one with a different opinion. I for one have never seen a better looking and more easily navigated forum than APG vNext as implemented here at Cakewalk Forum. And that's regardless device. It may sound stupid, but I think at least some of the success of this community may be due to those factors. Additionally, I think that when you do change things, you shouldn’t change everything at once. Recognition and familiarity is important.

Of course, this is not a big deal in a broader perspective. And let me also line up in the queue to thank you for taking over the IP related to SONAR. But I for one would surely miss the look and feel of the current forum.

And regarding your avatar – it’s actually possible to have two: one being displayed when you’re online and one when you’re away. Brilliant! I have never seen that feature in any other forum software. And as for me, I have a picture of me sitting at the piano at a very young age when I’m online, and the very same picture without me present when I’m offline. That's instant feedback. A thank you hence goes to Photoshop as well.

Hi guys,

It's been a whirlwind 48 hours for us and engaging with you guys here has just validated how incredible this community is. "Thank you" could not be said enough.
<snipping for space>
Would anyone mind if we moved from APG to an alternative forum framework provider?
<snip>
p.s Sorry if you were hoping for something more serious, that will come soon :-)

Hi meng!

I know a lot of folks have been asking for new forum  software for a while. If we have access to these current forums, even locked down for no new posts, I think we'll be good with it. There is an amazing amount of good information here, for those that can find it, and would be sad to lose it.

I don't know which forum software would be better. I haven't actually found anything that wasn't difficult or flawed in some ways that would still allow the significant conversations we can have here.

Meanwhile on a desktop computer or laptop:
User Control Panel (Top Right of forum pages) | Edit Profile | Avatar / Profile Photo.

I'm not sure if a mobile device sees the same options or layout.

Meng:

I think it will be fine to do the migration you've described, with obvious criteria such as account maintenance, searchable history, etc. I suspect the permanent links would translate relatively in the new environment but break from an external version of the old link? Just wondering. Enhancing portability across browsers and mobile support are equally key benefits in advancing the platform.

Thank you for considering our input.

I think this forum has a certain look and feeling about it. A good look and feeling.
With that said, it could use an update and some work done to the search engine.

If you were to change anything would it be possible to keep the same look and style of pages, exc ?
And just change the engine which it uses in the background ?

I'd love a forum that is not part of a larger community.

Also, if you freeze and archive this, please spend an afternoon working on a better search function. This forum's search never has worked properly.

That's what Google is for!

site:forum.cakewalk.com "search term(s) without the quotes"

Works jim dandy.
