I love the way the forum looks and feels in its current form, and it is way more user friendly and INVITING looking than most other forums I know of. On an iPad it is crystal clear.

If you take the Presonus forum by comparison, the "look" is, imho, rather austere and utilitarian by comparison.

I don't know anything about other forum software options to be able to say which, if any, is better.

From the perspective of a user of this forum it has become increasingly flaky to use, certain functions no longer work, editing a post often makes it disappear altogether, sometimes a post is accepted and then instantly deleted for no apparent reason and once that happens it seems to happen every time until you log out/in again, but all that said it used to be just fine, so it's as if someone fiddled with whatever settings at some point and messed it up.

One thing for sure is that the recently attempted reformat known as "The Bakery" was not well received in these parts and rightly so IMO. Aesthetics aside, the structure, with posts moving up or down the thread depending on reasons I never quite find out made it mostly incoherent. I think you would have a mass desertion on your hands if something like that were implemented. I guess that the idea was that the most pertinent posts stayed near the top of the thread and the not so pertinent ones ( I can be polite when the mood takes me) sink to the murky depths, but it just made the whole thing unreadable to me and many others seemed to concur.

I get that with the current linear set-up it can sometimes be necessary to wade through pages of nonsense and egos before getting to anything that actually resembles a valid point, but that said, it doesn't really take many forum visits to become easily able to filter out what doesn't need reading (that's what avatars are for, right? ;))

I also agree with the suggestion that if there is to be moderation on your new forum, it would be a good time to change the moderators.

A forum format change is welcome, as long as we keep the open exchange of ideas, and spontaneous nature that has always been the Cakewalk forum tradition here. Meng, I'm sure you realize there is no other forum like this in the DAW / Audio  world . . . lets strive to keep it that way.

VBulletin is a great forum system. I have worked with it before. It can be customised and integrated quite easily and there is a migration system available for migrating from other popular forum software.

Since for me, this forum is a wealth of knowledge, not only about Sonar, but music recording in general. The main improvement  I would like to see is a way of adding photos without having to go through a 3rd party app.

Would anyone mind if we moved from APG to an alternative forum framework provider?

I think that is a great idea

I think this forum has a certain look and feeling about it. A good look and feeling.
With that said, it could use an update and some work done to the search engine.

If you were to change anything would it be possible to keep the same look and style of pages, exc ?
And just change the engine which it uses in the background ?

As 2 people who probably post on here a lot and are part of the core of daily "helpers" I agree with Chuck. Do what you want but please don't change the look and feel of this forum. The bakery was a classic case of  " we don't like this so we will not participate".
