Maybe make a permalink that says "this forum is now over here" or something, so people with bookmarks can still find it.

A forum reboot on a new platform would be fine with me.  Whatever system you choose, I just hope it works better on a mobile platform than the existing system.  I'm quite frankly impressed that you asked.  As far as I'm concerned, BandLab is already at "Savior" status, so if you want/need to go to a new forum system, I'm all in and supportive.

There are so many other much worse forum layouts than this one. I'm skeptical. Maybe someone can point to some specific examples of better systems.

Most here seem to like the layout, but as previously mentioned, the forum search is lousy, and inserting/attaching media is limited/cumbersome. I would also add the design is dated with the old school bevels, gradients, and shadows.

Then there's the matter of hosting and managing the forum software. I don't know what the APG backend looks like, but I'm guessing BandLab isn't liking what they're seeing.

In line with most peoples thinking as long as we still have the same access we have now
I don't see a problem.

Wrong thread, this is about the forum. Read the other thread before posting, because it answers.

Thank you everyone for your responses - it's great to get the vibe of the community as to how they feel about the medium they prefer to communicate within.

Making changes to a forum format may feel like a small thing, but like many of you have identified - the community around Cakewalk is one of the key differentiators vs other platforms and at BandLab, we're all about social communities so we would like to keep it that way, we definitely don't want to hinder Cakewalk's community in any way or form :-) migrating other functional services, imho, are far easier than migrating user behaviour or where people "live".

In response and based on feedback too:

1) We definitely will be keeping to the forum/thread format - no Reddit/Stackoverflow style
2) We'll try and keep as close to the current colour scheme/design as possible within the new framework
3) We won't be removing this site - we'll likely keep this forum "archived" here at forum.cakewalk.com and set up a new one at discuss.cakewalk.com (or a similar subdomain) which means new posts will no longer be possible and there will be strong signage up towards the new forum
4) Feature requests and preferences are noted

I don't know if it will be possible to move everyone's post count though - maybe it can be manually done if everyone keeps to the same username or if we can implement single sign on <- this is something we're already looking at.

Once we've got a proper timeline for the change, we'd definitely still want community moderators/forum hosts if they are still keen on/enthusiastic about having those responsibilities.

Thanks again to all who have participated here and I'll leave this up for a day more before unpinning it and letting it drift into the ether... I'll also be addressing some concerns and questions that have come up about what direction future development will take within the "Hello from BandLab" thread :-)

Thanks for the update. FYI, I've sent you a couple of PMs, but your inbox is full.
