I just upgraded from SONAR X1 to SONAR Platinum and I noticed the Smart tool does not function anymore. It remains as one tool, which I don't know what the proper name of the one tool is, but it's the one that looks like a capital "I" where you use it to highlight clips. It no longer turns into the move tool. Is there a setting to get smart tool to work again? Also, where's the "Reference Guide" for Platinum I can't find it anywhere, should it not have been a part of the download?

The Smart tool is a star the other tools are not it. Press T to bring up the tools hud. Select the first one on the left. That is the smart tool.

Thanks John,

What I'm trying to convey is that the smart tool is not working. I use it all the time... I have it chosen, but in Platinum it's not working correctly, it only remains as one tool, instead of changing into different tools as you move it around the clip.

Yeah, my smart tool was stuck on the split tool and wouldn't change no matter where I placed the cursor over the clip. The toolbar showed the smart tool was selected. I opened up the hud and clicked on the smart tool there (even though it was already selected), and things went back to normal. It was like the smart tool hadn't been initialized globally until I physically clicked on it. Now that I've done that, it's operating normally, even after closing and reopening Sonar.

There's a strip at the top of the audio clips that will allow you to drag the clip when you put the cursor over it. Just make sure that you have the clip highlighted. That change started with X3.

*Resolved* They really need to put out the reference guide for this PLATINUM version, so we can understand all the changes made (especially the mi~nute ones).

It use to be if I place the smart tool at the bottom of the clip it would turn into the 'move tool', now you have to place the smart tool at the top of the clip where the clip label is (if your clip  is labeled, otherwise it's just the blank bar), in order for the smart tool to turn into the 'move tool' in Platinum. 99.9% of most problems turn out to be something simple, but only after you gain knowledge of it, otherwise it's complex...

Thanks Leadfoot, I skipped over the X2, X3 versions, so I never had the pleasure of learning those feature sets. Can't wait for the Reference Guide to come out for this new version.

Glad to help. It took me a while to figure it out too.

Except for the format, the help files are identical to the Reference Guide. Usually the Reference Guide is released a little after the product. In the mean time, it might be useful to take a look at the Cake TV videos to catch up on the changes between X1 and the current version. Clip handling with the Smart Tool is similar to X2 w/ the addition of Comping.
