Excuse the tongue in cheek title, but I set myself the task of writing, recording and mixing a song in Platinum in under 8 hours. The background is that I have had a nightmare run with X3 - sometimes 5-10 crashes in an hour, all sorts of random weird behaviours, continually dealing with mini dumps, error reports that wouldn't send, trying to make videos of the issues, etc etc etc. I had actually given up trying to do anything productive at all. Platinum (and a new computer!) looked like it was going well with the same old projects that had previously been crashing, so, I put it through its paces yesterday. I did a 20 track project from start to finish without a single crash!! (Heaven for me! - that hasn't happened for over 3 years!) My observations were ... 1 - Audio snap and Melodyne worked brilliantly for tightening guitars, basses and percussion (always had major trouble with both before)
2 - Speed Comping working seamlessly (I even tried to crash it by flicking between takes and segments as fast as I could)3 - I used Concrete Limiter on every track with no issue - was previously completely broken for me (usually big orange strip and no audio!)4 - REMatrix functioned smoothly on Pro Channel (although I did find the wet/dry slide control a little too small to make fine adjustments)5 - I love the big midi notes, as eyesight is not my strong suite - this is a winner! I did encounter a couple little minor glitches which I will report to Cakewalk in time relating to a template not holding its screen position and personal instrument and plugin layouts not remaining as the default even though I set them to be. Overall, I am so relieved. Finally, I can make music again!! The only limitations I now have have are time and talent!
