Basically, I'm trying to recover projects from my old laptop (which won't boot up, I've removed the hard disk and am using it with a USB enclosure). For the most part, this has been successful, but there's still a couple of plugins that I used in the old projects that won't work on my new laptop. I've determined that the issue resides with the fact that these are 32-bit DXi plugins, that cannot be loaded on my new 64-bit laptop, running a 64-bit edition of Sonar. "Why not just install the 32-bit edition of Sonar next to your 64-bit install and then load up the projects in that?" - Tried it. Caused a blue screen error as soon as the program tried to launch, seemed to be a problem with my laptop's soundcard, which I then updated the driver of (after reading another thread about Realtek drivers on here), but didn't fix the problem. Completely disabling the soundcard in Device Manager allows Sonar to load, but it still crashes when I try to open the project (not a blue screen error this time though, just a regular program crash). I'll mention here that the version of Sonar I'm using is irrelevant, the same problems happen across all versions I own (8 through to X1) So, my questions are... 1. What do you think the problem is that's causing 32-bit Sonar to crash when loading up the project files? 2. Is there anyway to get the 32-bit DXi to load up in 64-bit Sonar? 3. Is there a way to recover the plugin state from the stand-in plugins that Sonar uses? I can get the same plugin working in it's VST version, but as it was the DXi version I used originally, I can't recover the various presets/settings/state of the plugin to use with the VST version. And whereas I could probably make a similar sounding alternative with the VST version, it has to be identical to the original as I'm trying to recover the original stems from these tracks, and I can't remember for the life of me what I did to get those sounds. Hope someone can help, I feel like I've tried everything by now.

Update: Blue Screen error has been fixed. Was an issue involving ASIO4ALL and a piece of software called SoundTap. The 32-bit version of Sonar will now load up with no problems, and I can create projects and insert synths etc. But as soon as I try to open the old project, Sonar crashes. Opening the project in safe mode also crashes Sonar. This is regardless of which driver mode is selected. EDIT: Although again, if there is a way to simply recover the synth presets from the standin plugins, that will solve my problem.

Man do I feel your pain and totally understand the issue! If anybody has cracked this "dxi synth swap to vst version" I will be forever gratetful.
Same issue, took the 64bit  os/sonar plunge and am having one heck of time trying to recreate/repatch now defunct synths with their VST 
Versions.
Many missing plugs.
 I have 2 pcs/two Sonars that I constantly go back and forth via a KVM switch and it do suck.  Add in the dead Cakewalk brand
DSP FX that I have used all over my projects and it really becomes a chore.   
I am about to see if a DX version of the first generation Z3ta+ can be installed some where so Sonar can "re-insert that synth, that I have used about a million times...I have no hope of course..LOL. 
Any thoughts/success stories I would love to hear.
I did suggest to the Cwalk folks to create a separate"64 Bit" forum section, since we are all headed there, and I would certainly appreciate all the info in one place.

One thing I have considered is going back to all my 32 bit projects, swapping out all the plugs and synths that are givin me trouble in the 64 bit 
realm, and then copy over the CWP's to the new PC. Not fun either way.   
 

There are a couple of VST wrappers for Dx effects. Dxshell is one of them. There was a recent thread in X1 forum that mentioned it or just search kvaudio for the link to the plugin.

Why don't you install the 32-bit version of Sonar and see if that helps? You can have both 64 and 32 bit versions installed at the same time.

Well, I'll stick my neck out and say that the version you're running IS relevant, especially if you're using either the original X1, X1a or X1b.

Only from X1c onwards did X1 become stable for me, so, which version are you ruining running?

I'm not sure why you would have problems installing and using 32 bit Sonar, on a W7 64 bit computer,, everyone around here has this working fine,,, but You don't seem to be using a proper audio interface and that's a good way to cause issues.

you might want to try dxshell. i had the same problem, but this package solved it for me. i put it in my 64-bit vst folder, and suddenly all of my 32-bit dxi's showed up in sonar. magic! http://xlutop.com/buzz/zip/dxshell_v1.0.4b.zip

Another good example as to why one should NEVER EVER erase/uninstall a previous version.

I have a triple boot system: w7-32, w7-64, w8-64

As I transition to only using the 64 bt OS and SX1-64, I often have to boot to the 32 bit windows and 8.5.3 to export presets, save DP programs,....

Never delete old versions.

Was running X3 32-bit.  Now I've bought Platinum and have tried copying the dxshell files into the Cakewalk VST folder.  When I attempt to load the DXis I get the message "Failed to insert soft synth.  The synth may not be properly installed."  Thoughts?
