I'm struggling somewhat and I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong in BFD2, Sonar, both or none!!! Currently I export all my individual drums from BFD2 into Sonar in mono, then pan accordingly. I then pan within BFD to get the panning correct on the OH and room mic, but these always appear central!

As an example, I pan the hi-hat hard left (which I'd never normally do), it is at an equal level on both left and right on the OH and room mics, common sense would tell me (appreciate, common sense is not always the right answer!) the left mic would pick up more of the signal and the right mic will pick it up, just not as heavy.

Am I doing something wrong here, or have I completely misunderstood how room/OH mics work? Thanks

You can only pan the direct mic channels and not the ambient channels.

Not sure if there's a work around but having a feeling I might have read about a way of doing it but I don't think it can be done in the real world.

Thanks for the info. I've not recorded live drums before, surely this happens when doing so though? Two OH mics on a kit, from drummer perspective, the left OH mic will pick up more hi-hat than the right. Equally, the right will pick up more ride cymbal than the left?

If you look at the ambient meters whilst auditioning kit pieces you'll notice that there is an panning/inballance either to the left or right compared to the direct mics but the difference is very slight band the further away the mic the less this become. The amb3 mic is at the back of the room.
It may depend a little on what mics are being used though I'm not an engineer and have never recorded drums either but have sat in plenty of studios whilst an engineer gets a good drum sound and I think it's pretty much the way it is.

The only option available in BFD2 is to activate the Flip Ambience parameter:

Flip Ambience
Because the ambient mic buses are stereo, you can encounter problems when panning the Direct mic channels for a Kit-Piece. The position of the Kit-Piece within the stereo field of the ambient mic buses cannot be changed - this is an inherent drawback of true stereo ambience. However, activating the Flip Ambience button results in the Kit-Piece’s Overhead, Room and PZM left/right channels being swapped around.
Using this method, the Kit-Piece’s ambient reflections can at least be inverted if you decide to alter the direct panning so that it is predominantly in the other half of the stereo field.
In addition you can use the Width controls in the Bus Mixer in order to manipulate the stereo properties of the ambient mic buses
