Press E to bypass all FX and raise your sample buffer for asio. Does the problem persist? If so, take a look at virus scanner and consider disabling for cakewalk folders.

Hi it won't let me adjust the mixing latency

You need to adjust the latency on your soundcard first and then click apply under the drivers section within preferences in Sonar.  Buffers are driven from the soundcard not Sonar, Sonar merely picks them up from the sound card

Are you using ASIO?

Sounds like either the ASIO Buffer Size needs to be adjusted, or maybe one or more loaded effects are adding enough latency that they are causing audio issues.

Please indicate:

Sonar Driver Mode (Preferences>Audio>Playback and Recording)
Sonar Reported latency values and Sampling Rate (Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings)
Current Sonar value under Playback section - 'Prepare Using xxxx Millisecond Buffers (Preferences>MIDI>Playback and Recording)

By the way - some interfaces present their User Interface settings screens from within Sonar, by clicking on the ASIO Panel button in Preferences>Audio>Driver Settings, BUT some other interfaces don't do anything when you click on that button, and instead, you would look for an application for the audio interface drivers down in the Windows System Tray - (bottom right corner of your desktop, where you also would see things like the little speaker icon for volume, your internet connection status, printer status, etc).

I generally run with my ASIO Buffer Size set to 128 when I am recording/tracking, and then I will change it to 1024 when I am moving on to the mixing phase.  This setting is maintained by the audio interface User Interface settings screen, and then after I make changes to it, I power cycle the audio interface and also Sonar, to get a nice clean and fresh ASIO buffer - based on whatever its new size is.

I hope any of the above helps,

Bob Bone

try to use MME driver setting, then you can set the audio buffers if you need to.

Try pressing E to bypass all effects to see if one of them is causing the issue.
