I am hoping AD2 does more for me that AD1, I have read so many good things about the Fairfax kits. I just could not see me using AD1 when I have Superior and BFD3 based on the AD1 factory kits.

BFD3 is probably the best out there at the moment but I still get more use out of Superior, I have had it a lot longer and I have more track templates setup.

I have BFD, AD2, and Superior Drummer 2. SD2 wins across the board but I have quite a collection of kits, too. SD2 has a very steep learning grade but it is well worth the effort. AD2 gets a little use from time to time but I only had the kits that came with it. Now with the Platinum update I plan to take advantage of the Producer's Bundle and pick up the Black Velvet and Fairfax 1 & 2 Kits.
I still am so satisfied with Toontrack I will probably still stick most of the time to SD2. But, after all! It's all about options! LOL

It is.

I love the interface for AD, very simple and quick to use.  Get's the job done.  Very easy to use when using an e-kit to trigger the sounds.  I love the way they show a picture of the kit you have loaded.  I know it doesn't really do anything functional other than give you a visual reinforcement of what sample you have pulled up, but it's a nice little visual cue.

As a drummer, I can't stand the way they sampled some of the drums.  In the Fairfax set they sample a Gretsch round badge kit and they tuned the heads way down to where it loses all the magic that kit has.  The thinner shell you need to tune the heads up to get those beautiful overtones that kit has.  You will get the bottom end because the shell is so thin.  The way they sample it, it sounds like a cardboard box.

Other than that, I can't believe they don't have a sample of a Yamaha Recording Custom which was the number one recorded studio kit from 1975-1995.  And and even bigger sin was recording their jazz samples on a Premier Gen-X kit, are you freaking kidding me?  And not one single Slingerland kit sampled.

Having said that, I do like the standard kits with the AD1 with Sonar X3.  It was a little annoying trying to figure out which kit they sampled when they say "Tama Starclassic", Starclassic what? Bubinga? Maple? B/B? they all sound different.  But I did like the samples and I really love the Sonor Designer kit they sampled.

dubdisciple, I went through everything included with AD2 and none do it for me.  "Traditional" Country is not the modern "rock country" that Nashville is grinding out now.  If I was doing that then I could find a lot of useful drum patterns.

If I want to use AD2 I will have to learn how to create my own.

Question.  Are the AD2 midi patterns useable with another engine?  Superior for example?  Can you just set up a drum map?

I have X3 but didn't DL the AD stuff.

Thanks.

SD2 is definitely the most powerful of the three.  However I feel SD2 lacks alot of samples of what I consider classic kits.  They are better than AD, as they have a good selection of Slingerland kits, but again, no Yamaha Recording Custom.

I think BFD might be the only VST that uses Recording Custom samples.  SD2 does a huge sampling of GMS kits which I like their drums, but they aren't signature sounds.  There's no drummer out there who has their sound associated with GMS.

If you like spending a bit of time tweaking drums to get it exactly as you want it to be, then SD is best for you. If you like to get something quick, phat, and full sounding straight out of the box, then AD2 is the way......(BTW, they also have dry kits for your tweaking pleasure).

I'm somewhat lazy when it comes to drums and like to have them "ready to go", so I sold my copy of SD and only use AD2 now.........very happy with this decision.......I love the Black Velvet kit.

Just having the AD2 bundle included in Sonar makes it a very easy choice for me.

I've checked out every drum program there is and I can't say one's better than others.

I own nearly every (major) drum program out there and I can't say one's better than others.

I can say I chose one over the other on a song by song basis.

WRT the OP I can't say any more or less than anyone has already said. AD2 and Sup2 are different animals and will be a success or a failure based on your needs.

Denverdrummer: there is a Yamaha kit in an Ezdrummerr  expansion pack. I think it is the Classic kit. You can use that kit in SD2.
I am a little confused about SD2 being hard to use. I mean it has eq and compressors etc. Stuff I thought most
X3 users would be comfortable using. There are a number of Producer Packs that can help out as well.

I love Toontrack's producer presets. And their midi packs. Hell, even their SDX expanions. I just bought the Metal Machinery SDX over the holiday season (a time period where I totally overspent lolololol) and love the way it sounds. I've yet to make my own drum sound out of the raw samples, but am going to do that on a track I'll continue work on once Sonar 2015 installs. :)!!!
