hi all i'm having trouble with the prochannel module PC4K S-Type channel compressor,it works and sounds great but loading even one instance in a project sonar becomes extremely laggy, the sound plays properly but the console level meters are a second behind the sound and adjusting nearly any control becomes frustrating.Dose anyone else experienced this or has and found a solution to the problem because i love this module but ill never be willing to use it if this is just how it is.Any information appreciated.

actually it seems it happens with use of any prochannel module just not nearly as noticeable as when using PC4K compressor...ugh

If it helps im using Sonar x3e Studio

I have never had that issue on any of my machines.  What is the spec of your computer and audio interface?

computer is amd 8320 fx cpu,16 gig 1600 ram,120 gig ssd,500 gig hdd, graphics nvidia geforce 550 ti and my audio interface is focusrite 8i6
the only time i experience issues like these is with sonar, even FL studio in beta doesn't do this ever.it wont detur me from sonar but having bought the studio edition and not being able to use the full potential of the prochannel makes it pointless to have upgraded.i want to upgrade to producer but things like this are what stop me,i just wont buy somthing if i cant use it.

Also note that my only issue seems to be with using prochannel modules, the eq works and no problem with soft tube saturation knob, but any other prochannel module makes sonar lag to nearly unusable state, which sucks because prochannel was the big reason for my wanting to upgrade, not any of the extra goodies,i couldve cared less about them honestly.also note i have uninstalled a re installed sonar x3e multiple time even as far as going into windows registries to get all traces deleted, and re install same with all the prochannel modules im tired honestly having lost count of howmany times ive tried and howmany different ways i went about it to somehow find what might be wrong to solve this problem,i have no issue like this with any of my other software at all.

That's not normal behavior at all, ProChannel modules aren't even particular CPU-hungry.

SONAR is very reliant on graphics. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card. But if you install new drivers, try disabling any "HD Audio" drivers it might install. There have been several reported instance of problems with nVidia and ATI cards interfering with computer processes. This tip tells you how to disable these drivers. It's completely reversible so there's no harm in trying.

Thanks for the reply,i have tried that tip ive tried all tips installing uninstalling drivers, plugins, prochannel modules and sonar many times now to no avail,it seems im stuck not being able to use the prochannel, maybe ill request a refund for the studio edition and get something else....because everything else isn't giving me trouble its only the prochannel, and without the prochannel my using the studio edition is pointless

if theres some way to upload a video ill send a screen capture to demonstrate how glitchy it becomes,so you know im not just kidding around trying to software bash,im not and its repeatable over and over again here

I logged in to chime in.

I get cases where video doesn't sync with audio. For me, when setting compression, The timing of the image isn't super critical. I can just hear it. But it is something I've noticed.

I'm not at home, but I'll play with it when I get back. I think I can probably re-create your scenario. I'm guessing using a couple of Melda Productions MSpectralDynamics plugs with the look-ahead turned way up will cause the issue.

I'm curious to see whether the sample buffer matters.

This post is just to let EchoJester know that he/she isn't alone and that I'll look into it to see if we can get a repeatable case which could then be submitted. Perhaps a Delay Compensation thingy is appropriate for Video in odd cases.

I wanted to add that one plugin -- a different plugin than the one you are curious about -- might cause the problem for you and effect all others (including the fly-out EQ spectral analysis for example).

So, fair question, if you create a new project, drag in some audio, set sample buffers the same as in your problematic project... do you see the latency with only the PC Compressor your mentioned?

I'm guessing that you will not. I'm guessing there is a plug in the chain introducing a lot of offset and the video is not similarly offset.

I would think this would cause the video to appear early rather than late, but who knows. :-)

I would definitely think this is a setup/hardware/routing issue.  It is certainly not the 'norm' for thousands of installations - and with about as many differnet combinations of hardware involved as well.
The only time I've had issues with lagginess/sync is when i was inserting something while the transport is running.  Sometimes, perfect.  Others, not so much, but certainly not a show stopper for me since re-starting the audio engine resolves it.

Look at all of your setup - even if you done so before.  Start off with nothing, then add one thing at a time.  Yo may find that it is another vst that is the cause.

Just my two cent.  Your milage may vary.

Good luck.
