  • Does Mix Recall not record changes to audio tracks and data? (p.5)

At some point, perhaps MixRecall could include envelopes and Automation. The old AW4416 I have has separate Mix Recall function as well as Automation Recall functions.

It does see http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Mixing.48.html# about 2/3rds down the page

And you guys can thank scook for the instructions. I just rooted around a bit in what he posted in another thread to find that.

Ah, I see it. I feel stupid now. It was around 4:00am when I started to look into it. I should have seen it but in my sleep deprived state, I missed it. Thank you. This is a freaken great feature!

Dude... I'm just consistently amazed I managed to figure out how to actually get noise from the meatworld into my shiny light box. Friggen' thing is like trying to fly a helicopter.

Cheers.

He means bouncing the entire mix to a new stereo track within the same project as opposed to exporting to a wav file. Well it is still exporting to a wav but it pops up in the new track instead of on let's say your desktop or wherever you save you exports to.

How do you do that again?

Select all, "Tracks" menu (arrange view), "bounce to track(s)"?

Mix recall can do a ton of stuff besides recalling mix values.
It however is not designed to save and recall audio and MIDI data. i.e. anything that is clip related is ignored as part of the recall. It would be extremely confusing and weird to have it remove actual clips data on tracks and potentially lead to data loss since Mix recall is not undoable.

One very useful thing it can be used for is saving and restoring complex track and bus level settings, effects and synth settings. Its all described in the help here:

Thanks I understand now but it does limit its usefulness for me as if it doesn't even track busses and associated rerouting etc then it is a very limited feature for me.  I mean surely setting up things like parallel compression busses is part of a "normal" mixing process?

For that create a track template as it can save multiple tracks, the buses they're routed too and any plugins.

Well I guess if you've never used something like the 01v you might have no clue what we are talking about here.
Back in the days when my music was coming from an Atari driving midi sound modules and the audio from an 8 track. The 01v was this amazing tool, ( still is)
It was slick because the Atari midi could control the 01v and automate the faders. It would recall whole mixes including the 2 effects plus the 4 Aux sends. Your whole mixdown was automated and saved. And this could be shared between songs.
To much bass on  all the songs , recall the mix and add a little more hi pass.
If you recorded a band and had 12 songs, each song had a ready made template with the recalls. I was hoping that the mix recall was sort of the same thing but I guess that's asking to much. It's still only possible using outboard digital mixers. I guess a DAW mixer is basic and limited.

It's mostly needed when you record 12 songs at a session which are all sort of the same and end up using a lot of the same settings and effects on all the songs. I know some of you don't fathom this as most people are just working on their own stuff song by song, but there is work to be had recording bands out there. I don't think any DAW has a 01v mode at this point. Seems the real studios all still use real mixing consoles. Digital and analog. I kick myself for not buying the ADAT card for the 01v.
