Up and running Platinum now! Okay first off, the new command centre is handy. I only had to download and install Sonar Platinum and Anderton's fx chains. Took about 15 minutes from d/l to install. I also downloaded the help guides, vids and I'm assuming demo/tutorial tracks. This is over a gig, so it took about 30 mins.
First impression once it was up and running, is that it seems to be a little snappier on my system, than X3 (which is saying something!) I haven't loaded a large project as yet. But I have put it through its paces to some extent, keeping playback running while I swapped effects in and out on various tracks and not even a slight pause or crackle.
All of my VST's and additional content is showing up, so no dramas there!
I did a quick and dirty mess with effects pre-sets on a bunch of loops, to create multiple mixes and utilise mix recall. Thus far, it is f-ing sweet!!! I thought it would take a bit longer to swap everything out, but it is surprisingly quick. (Though it may not be the same case for gigantic scoring types???)
Vocal Sync is also notably quick and appears to be of rather high quality. I have been using it more as an effect to just randomly sync (or mangle) synth parts to guitars or drums (as opposed to syncing vocals.) Whilst changing the guide track is not instantaneous. It is faster than I would expect, considering once it is ready? You can just twist the knob back and forth with playback running and it stretches and contracts the audio flawlessly!
Whilst typing this, I've loaded a couple of projects from X3 and they all open and playback as expected! Not a single hitch, glitch or son-of-a-b*tch!
Hmmmm this all seems a bit beige cardigan... So how's about the usual, "This version sounds better!"
*Cough*
Seriously if it does sound better, I can't tell? The dog, who has better hearing than me, has the same look on his face that he always has when I'm playing music... "FEED ME!"
I think maybe that just means X3 sounded great too?...
I'll be selecting my XLN goodies tomorrow and am looking forward to what comes next with me splatter proof trousers on!
You're alright, Cakewalk! You're alright...
PS: Oh but now I think of it, there is one notable absence... No hovercraft!
What gives?!! Don't make me take you on judge Judy, Craig!!!
