Hi all,

I exported a piece and the audio got recorded but the synth tracks did not.  I have another piece of all synth and it exported fine.  Both went to MP3s.  I tried exporting "entire mix", and also, perhaps tellingly, tried "selected tracks", and noted that only the audio tracks showed up.  The outputs for the synth tracks are set up the same way as with the all synth piece - they go to the synth whose output goes to the M Audio Fast Track Pro (which runs by USB to the DAW).  Any thoughts?

Thanks
Eric

Hi Eric, it sounds like it could be a routing/selection problem.

First, are you using Simple Instrument Tracks or split audio/Midi. If SIT, try converting them to split and try again.

If they're split, what happens if you solo just one synth, select BOTH tracks and export again. What do you get?

Routing: are all of your audio tracks (and the synth audio tracks) being output to your master bus? (Tip: mute your master bus and anything routed to your main outs will be audible (and won't get exported via "entire mix"))

Hi there,
I looked through the reference manual and saw SID as it relates to soft synths, which are not in the project.  If I read your question - I think it's split audio Midi - I have some of both.  If I get that right.  My understanding is the synth audio tracks also seem to be in relation to soft synths.

I can't output the synth to the Master Bus bc it doesn't show up as an output option.  The only output option is the synth itself.  The synth (which is a Yamaha Motif) physical output goes to the M Audio.  My assumption is that anything coming from the M Audio via USB to the DAW would be recorded.

Based on prior experience I'm sure I'm missing some basic concept here :)

There are also some VSTi s that don't like fast bounce.
If you really have exported the two projects exactly the same way, but only one of them exports the MIDI, then I'd try real time bounce to eliminate that culprit.
I strongly recommend having all tracks routed through Master Bus and using Master Bus as the export source.
That way you can really be sure that you are in controll of everything.

Thanks for that.  As indicated in my prior post, I can't get Master Bus to show up as an output option for the synth.  So I'm doing something wrong in a basic way I think.

The Motif's sounds are external to the computer and SONAR, so they can't be exported with the sounds that are in the computer, like audio and software synthesizer tracks can be.
The info you provided tells me that the Motif is connected to the M-Audio by MIDI cables, right? Audio is not deleivered via MIDI.
Connect audio cables from the Motif's headphone/line-out to the M-Audio and record each keyboard track into an audio track in SONAR and then do the export.

Hi Greg - Motif is connected to M-Audio by audio cables.  I will try to record keyboard tracks into an audio track (I assume all midi tracks go to 1 audio track)...makes sense.  The weird thing is recording another piece the export worked without this step.

By the way any reason I wouldn't let the audio (happens to be guitar) tracks also get recorded onto the audio track that the synth is going to?  Another btw - that's what I was originally doing but was told I could skip and just hit export.  With apologies to all, I see I did not do that - I did exactly what you suggested above.

Sorry for endless thread guys.  SO - I can record the synth tracks on the newly created audio track, no problem.  However mysteriously it will not record the guitar (audio) tracks.  :(

I should have added that the inability to get the audio tracks to record on new audio track happens whether I route the audio tracks' output to the M Audio or to a Bus (which I need to do since it contains automation) which then outputs to the M Audio (I did the former just as experiment).
