  • Thinking Of Upgrading To X3 Producer, But Need To Know A Few Things First

Hello and good day everyone!

As the title suggests, I'm considering upgrading to Sonar X3 Producer.
Most everything I had questions on has been resolved, except for one thing, which concerns the Addictive Drums that comes with Sonar X3 Producer. Now, I know that you get a free upgrade to Addictive Drums 2, but what I don't know with any kind of certainty is what kind of sound library this comes with, if any.

After some digging, I ran across this snippet on the XLN website.
AD1 is replaced with the Studio Pop/Prog/Rock ADpaks, the Pearl Masterworks Piccolo Snare Kitpiece and the AD Legacy, Bread'n'Butter and Beats'n'Pieces MIDIpaks.

This, at least to me, implies that when you purchase Sonar X3 Producer, which comes with Addictive Drums 1, you get what was mentioned in the quote above. Also, I noticed something on the same page as the quote above that mentions getting a free ADPak if you do upgrade to Addictive Drums 2 (although that is a limited time offer, apparently.)
Basically what I need to know is if any of this at all applies to Sonar X3 Producer upgrades, and would love to hear from people who have made the upgrade to the Producer edition recently!

One additional thing that concerns me is the price of additional ADPaks.
So far, I have yet to see what just an ADPak alone costs, one that's not bundled with the Addictive Drums 2 software. If anyone has information concerning this, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks for your time, and have a great day!

As far as I know at this time if you purchase SONAR X3 you get AD2 not AD1, as AD1 is no longer available, it was only the peeps, like myself, who purchased SONAR X3 before XLN upgraded AD1 to AD2 who have AD1.  We did not get a free upgrade to AD2 which I feel is a little mean of XLN as it was only a few months after we got AD1 that they upgraded.

But then I may be wrong as I have been before.

Hello Wookiee, thanks for your response!

Hm, that's very interesting, and raises my curiosity even more!
I really hope that it does ship with a sound library at this point, because otherwise, that would make AD2 useless until I got some more money.
It's not exactly a breaking point, but considering I'm a solo musician, I would really appreciate a better way to create nice-sounding drum tracks than just Session Drummer 3. It works, don't get me wrong, but it's no AD2!

In either case, thanks for your time!

The Studio Pop, Prog, Rock are your sound libraries or sampled kits. They come with midi also. You don't need to buy anything extra to get full use out of it. Ad Packs should have their price on them at the store, I believe they are $70. to $80. normally and are on sale at about half off at times during the year.

Hello BassDaddy, thanks for the response!

That's wonderful news! I was getting worried there for a moment.
So AdPaks are indeed that price? I thought that was only because they were bundled with the AD2 software. It's not a problem, though! At least it comes with a good amount at the start.

Thanks again!

You can buy individual kit pieces for $9.95 and you can put together your own drum kits using components of the different AD packs.

X3 Pro still comes with AD1.  At least it did four months ago.

You get the mentioned components/packs and a free update to AD2.  When you update to AD2, the AD1 components are converted to AD2.  You end up with both AD1 and AD2 with their respective (same) components.

Just don't go and buy anything AD2 before upgrading, like I did, as that will install the AD2 player and then you have to contact XLN Audio to get them to fix things since the AD1 components will then not be converted to AD2.  They did respond the same day and were very helpful.

Hello everyone!

Looks like I won't have to worry any longer about what I'll get with Addictive Drums, what with Cakewalk coming out with their Platinum software.
I just wanted to take a moment and thank everyone that contributed to this thread and tried to help me out!

I hope everyone has a great day!
