  • Download or Boxed Version?

Hello,
Question 1.  I have always updated by ordering the boxed version of Sonar.  I have done this because of the many reports of difficulty others have reported with big downloads.  Sounds like the new Command Center might have eliminated most of these problems.  Anyone have an opinion on this?

Question 2.  I already have Sonar X1 and X3 Producer on my computer.  With the new system, am I correct that I only have to download the new features and not the whole new Platinum Program?  I don't want to fill up my hard drive with duplicated content.

Thanks for your thoughts,

You've never had to fill your computer with duplicated downloads as the installer for the core program and Sonar plugins have always been separate to large things like Dim Pro and any 3rd party things like XLN drums.

Now the installation and download can be controlled by a dedicated downloader Control Centre if you choose. I imagine having that kind of help that we'll get the core program and plugins etc as separate downloads. So for example you may not have to renown load plugins you already have.

Before we used to have to download the main installer files then select from the installer an advanced option to choose plugins etc we did or didn't want.

I have been using download since X1. They have not been a problem for me but I am fairly patient and my internet speed has improved over the years. The C3 https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=NewFeatures.02.html# appears to break the installers into smaller chucks.

Generally if you choose to install everything, much of the content overwrites the existing content so there is not net gain in disk use from content. A notable exception was the relocation of the 4GB Beatscape library to loops and one shots package when the Beatscape synth was dropped from X2.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.  I think I will go ahead and try the upgrade download.  The Command Center looks to make things pretty easy.

If you don't like it, you can buy the physical media later. Of course, it does cost slightly more to buy the media separately instead of ordering the physical media upgrade through a retailer. Either way, all the future updates be downloads.
