The idea that we will get one program that continuously gets updates rather than stopping the updates 4-6 months in is great for users and for Cakewalk as well since we no longer lose support in favour of working on the new X version. This means that small bugs will get patched quicker and as they are finished rather than having to wait for a larger patch such as "version X3a, X3b, etc." and no more waiting months for new features because they will be released as they are finished rather than "It will be in X4, I hope!"

Ok so how do you handle an update that turns out to be buggy or not work on your system?  How easy will it be to roll back a feature if 3 new ones have already been added...
 
I don't usually rely on "features" I rely on my ability write notes and get a good sound with what is in front of me...but i still see getting hung up here.

You'd right click on SONAR in command Center. Then go to 'Roll back' and you can choose the version you want to run. 

I agree wholeheartedly... I think Google's chrome was the first app I use daily to begin doing this and it makes total sense to me!
 
Combined with the ongoing "wish list" section in the forums, the bakers can hopefully get to our posted desires... such as my urgent desire to folderize console tracks and "show only tracks with data" options which will significantly improve the use of large track templates which have a lot of empty tracks during a song's development...
 
I hate to think I'll have to wait for X5 for this...and now I can just wait for it to magically appear!

Personally, I may opt for the subscription model to provide a steadier income stream to a great company filled with fantastic people who I want to keep on the job. Oh, and I'm soooo broke at the moment!

The biggest advantages are that we now have a proper infrastructure to deliver incremental updates and features to end users.
We tried a few baby steps in the past like the quickfix program, but it didn't work that well since it required end users to manually download and manage the fixes which caused some confusion. This approach makes stuff like this very simple and streamlined and allows us to deliver updates without a large release management overhead.
 

I like the idea of being able to get quick patches. Videogames have been doing this for a long while and with Steam, this should work perfectly.
 
That does make me wonder: Steam has always been good about giving gaming companies Steam Keys for people who purchased their software outside of Steam itself. Is this something they would be willing to do for Cakewalk as well so that those of us who own Sonar outside of Steam can still use it? While I'm sure the lot of us don't have Steam in our studios, I do have it on this computer and it would be an easy way to keep Sonar on here up to date and give me the ability to test out new patches before I opt to put them on the studio computer.
