  • Not This Again! Cut, Copy, Paste, and Split

Working on a new project.  Having this thing again where Cut, Copy, and Paste won't work from short-cut keys or menu.

When this happens, Split Clips won't work.

This has been an intermittent problem for a long time.  NOTE: IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN (more or exclusively?) WHEN I AM WORKING ON A SOFT SYNTH MIDI TRACK.  DOES NOT SEEM TO HAPPEN ON A SIMPLE INSTRUMENT TRACK.  Does splitting an instrument track possibly trigger this?  Maybe this is not a factor but since others have reported this issue, I am trying to see if we can isolate some factors.

Not sure konradh.

I never use Simple Instrument Tracks and splitting a Midi clip has always worked for me (unless it's been locked of course)

Does restarting the project/Sonar resolve the isse?

Maybe you have overlapping clips that you don't see. If you expand take lanes you would be able to tell. I hit "S" for split on a MIDI clip before and it did not split. I found that I simply had clips overlapping one another. I was able to see this when I expanded the Take Lanes. So it actually did split the clip, it was just not visible due to the overlapping clips. It showed when I expanded the take lanes.

Sylvan's comment definitely covers one situation, so hopefully that's it. If you open Take Lanes, you can do these operations on the takes themselves.

This might be strange,  but try emptying the Pic Cache folder.  That seems to solve many intermittent issues like you describe that i have....

Thanks, guys.

1-Yes, restarting Sonar fixes it, so it is an inconvenience but not a disaster.
2-There were no overlapping clips in this case, but that is a good thing to watch for.
3-I don't really know that this has anything to do with a split soft-synth track, but it is a theory I am considering.
4-I will try the Pic Cache thing next time.

I appreciate the help.  If this is the worst issue of 2015, I am good.

Thanks for thinking of us. You'll notice that I'm wearing glasses (designed to protect me from just such exposure as you mention) but my poor grandson isn't so a big thanks from him. Perhaps there's a possibility for some merchandising here. Is the mothership listening?

And I agree with Jimbo88 that emptying the pic cache can often clear up bizzarro Sonar behaviours as described. As I'm writing this though I recall that when I empty Sonar's pic cache, I always close Sonar, empty the pic cache and then restart Sonar, so I can't say unequivocally that it's emptying the cache when it could as easily be restarting Sonar that clears the problem. Hmm! Further investigation required if and when I have a bizzarro Sonar event.

Here I thought it was part of the Heisenrad principle...
