@ Craig    RE the WDM thing with the OctaCapture; does that apply to the UH7000? can it be aggregated with the Roland?  Sometimes I am only doing 1 track/1 mic, but then....sometimes I want 8 inputs at once.  So, the SPL Crimson looks interesting, the Saffire Pro 26 with a FW PCIe would only be $370, and I wait to read/hear about the Tascam 16X08, but keep wondering if there's some way to go RME... obviously I am sifting through my options!

I have the 18i20.  It's a good interface, and the mic pre's are great.  IMO the unit is a little bulky but it is very road worthy, if you have to use it mobile.  I'm not really using it as an interface anymore but only for the mic pre's.  I had a Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL that I had to get rid of, because there was a known bug with Intel USB 3.0 ports.  They have finally fixed that issue, so I went back to the VSL and access the 18i20 as a slave through ADAT.  I just really love the VSL software, and to be able to have EQ compression and gating on every channel prior to recording is invaluable and saves time.  Not to mention having no latency effects like reverb for singers when recording.  You just can't do that with the 18i20, but the FocusRite definitely has the better pre's.
