I have noticed the new button in the utilities drop down menu "Change Audio Format".
 
Is there an easy way to change a song's format from 96 to 48 or 44khz?  My song won't play it is too busy and bit laden. I should not have used such a high bit rate to begin with I know. (Neil Young is laughing at me right now I am sure.) 
 
I did not want to lower to 16 bit i figured i would try and lower the other aspect of khz.

Hello, I was in the same boat a couple years back, when I was kinda new to the Sonar X Family. Unfortunately, I think the only solution is to "Bounce to Track" all your audio tracks (one by one), then start a NEW PROJECT and (after changing your settings via Preferences to a different sample rate) then import your tracks to the new project. Have fun!

If your project has more than a few tracks, you may find it easier to convert the sample rates outside of Sonar.
Go to Voxengo.com and download the free R8brain program.
Close the project in Sonar then use R8brain to convert the wav files in the project folder.
 

Thanks for the responses peeps! That is a great idea Microapp, I never thought of using the project audio folder directly for such a task. I actually found a solution that is working for now. I froze all midi tracks (I hadn't noticed they were not frozen) and took out the slightly less vital processing things like saturation which I had working on every track. Made reverb busses to process multiple tracks at once and squeezed out the processor headroom I needed. It is an older song I made a while ago when i did not realize later I would run out of PC power. I like to mix and master all in one go so I had also the option of mastering a 32 bit wave file separately but I do not like to do that because it is a pain when I realize that the piano or something else is just too loud. Sonar is working really nicely for me. I found Sonar does not like Oxford's 32 bit reverb plugin. It is the best reverb I have ever heard but it rendered two songs unopenable. I removed the DLL's and the songs opened again with orphaned plugins. Not sure what is up with that, otherwise Sonar continues to utterly amaze me as it has always done so!!!! Many thanks to the cakewalk developers and programmers!!!
